Buy a random PS2 Taiko game + PS2 -> PC adapter, get drum, throw away game, play osu!. You haven't tried Taiko Mode until you've tried it with a real drum. :D
This script is written for GlovePIE, BTW. Get the program here: http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download

//osu! Taiko Drum Script v1.1 by Loginer
//Designed for used with PS2 Taiko Drum and adapter of choice

//Controls:
//Middle = Left mouse button (Red)
//Side = Right mouse button (Blue)
key.a = joystick1.button2
key.z = joystick1.pov1left
key.s = joystick1.button8
key.x = joystick1.button7

//Unnecessary debug script to make script seem more complex than it is
if joystick.button2 = true or joystick.pov1left = true
var.1 = "don"
end if
if joystick.button2 = true and joystick.pov1left = true
var.1 = "DON"
end if
if joystick.button2 = false and joystick.pov1left = false
var.1 = ""
end if

if joystick.button8 = true or joystick.button7 = true
var.2 = "kat"
end if
if joystick.button8 = true and joystick.button7 = true
var.2 = "KAT"
end if
if joystick.button8 = false and joystick.button7 = false
var.2 = ""
end if

if (var.1 = "don" or "DON") and (var.2 = "kat" or "KAT")
var.0 = "+"
else
var.0 = ""
end if

debug = var.1 and var.0 and var.2

The drum is way rarer than the game. The only one I found was $40 off eBay, sans game!

*needs to get a PS2 -> PC adapter now*

Does anyone mind telling how this script works?

I have a PS2 control -> PC adapter and it works with the regular control but does not work very well with the drum. My drum has no problems with sensitivity, but when I play Osu, it's not sensitive.

Does it react at all? If so, I'd blame the adapter. And it simply makes the drum emulate the left and right mouse buttons.

I bought a new copy on Amazon. Here's a link.

BTW, those who don't have a PS2 can still play the game on their PC if they'd want to, as long as it's powerful enough.
flyboy87
Well, it does react - but only occasionally. Maybe I installed the wrong driver?

I only installed the driver for a normal PS2 controller, maybe it needs a different driver? :P
LuigiHann
I'd like to see a youtube video of this in action.

If it does react at all, I'd blame the adapter. Get a Trio Linker Plus II, those are awesome.

Was there ever a conclusion on this?
  • Can you in fact buy a PS2 Taiko Drum Controller and use it with osu! ?
    Which PS2-to-USB adapter do you prefer?
    Do you use any Joy2Key software, or does it work fine in osu! ?
    Is there any latency regarding the Drum Controller?
Can anyone confirm that they've got a Taiko Drum Controller working with osu! ?
awp
I don't see why a standard PS2 taiko drum WOULDN'T work. I have a PS2 Guitar Hero controller working with proper fret recognition and everything, so I'd expect the Taiko drum to be even easier to use.

Don't own a Taiko drum though so I can't show off any proof.

This map has been deleted on the request of its creator. It is no longer available.
Penguino_old
I can get the left and right don buttons to work, but when i enter options in osu and try and configure the buttons for the two blue buttons it doesn't work. :(
am i doing something wrong?
Sinuce
You can just download a free Joy2Key program and set it up e.g. so that when you hit the edges of your drum, it should give the inputs "Z" and "V".

Try this: http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm
It might make your drum work with osu just fine...

EDIT:
So I bought a Drum for freaking $84 !

My current problem reads as follows (read if you want to know, what I've done and tested this far):
http://osu.ppy.sh/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8401&p=69733#p69733

I've tried using the GlovePIE script from above, but it does the exact same thing, as my Joy2Key software - and the outcome is the same;
osu! doesn't recognize all hits, and it feels like that I have to hit the drum harder than when in fx Notepad.

I tried connecting a PS2 Dance Pad (using the same adapter) with osu taiko mode, and that worked perfect
- no latency, no problems.

The problem seem to remain with osu! not being able to support the Taiko Drum fully.

Works fine! Thank you really much.~
Much fun to play on the Tatakon~ <3

I've had a taiko drum, and finally I decided to hook it up with osu.
Same issue with most people here, I gotta hit really hard for it to register. Also, there is a slight delay within the beats.

It works in terms of functionality, but in terms of practicality, it's failed me.

I do appreciate that the comunity can make something like this though.

Sorry for commenting in such old post, but could someone make a step by step or something?
i really don't know how to do this, i have a PS2 controller and a PS2 -> PC adaptor, I have downloaded GlovePIE and Joy 2key. ;-;

Well, I play the drum set now 2 Months and remarked, that I'm hitting not anymore so hard like at the beginning.
I think you need a little bit more practice at first. After a while you will feel easier to play it, and your accuracy goes up.
One more thing is that you will gain the possibility to deal with the offset/replay of the drum set. Just need to pratice.
But if you want get a better offset/replay of it, try to use in the Osu! options > Audio > Start offset Wizard the offset 75 or -75, it helped me at the beginning.

Maa, it's pretty easy.

1.) Pin the adapter on your PC > Pin your drum set on the adapter
2.) Now your PC should recognize the drum set or if not, you need - if you have got it - to install the driver of the drum set.
3.) Open GlovePIE
4.) Copy and paste the script for the drum set into the GlovePIE programm.
5.) Now click ,,start" in GlovePIE and it should work! When you hit now the drum set, the programm will show you kat/don.

Hope that helps you~ :3

By the way, that's how I play now:

Everyone looking for the a taiko drum check amazon. They have the game+controller bundle for $50 brand new.
The prices on eBay seem to get ridiculous, especially after factoring in shipping.

i have a wii drum
how can i deal with it?
just the same way as ps2?
OnosakiHito
As I know, it is just possible to get a adapter for the PS2 tatakon.
Never heard about a Wii adapter for tatakon.
xsrsbsns

Hmm wasn't that already implemented?
man.. I want to buy the ps2 drum and adapter.. (Don't have ps2/wii :( )
burningmice
I'm getting the same problems as others here now. I've tried multiple programs (joytokey, xpadder, glovepie, the one that came with my adapter). I find I have to hit the drum really hard for it to register and it's not very responsive. The drum works great on the PS2 and the adapter works fine with regular PS2 controllers as well.
I'll keep trying and if I get anywhere I'll post here.

Update: I found out it's something to do with the analog setting as to why my left centre drum part wont react. It's moving my mouse left. When trying with my regular PS2 controller with analog setting off it does the same thing, when I have the analog setting on it works as expected.

I'm pretty sure you can use a blue tooth adapter through your pc and use glove pie to let Osu! read the input from the taiko drum controller.
Lapin_old
Sorry for thread necro but what adapter are people using for their ps2 drum? :<
I have a Dilong PU 203, I've tried everything and can't get any response from it. >:( (works fine with ps2 controller/taiko works fine on ps2.)
Espionage724
I have a Radioshack PSX to USB adapter, and I don't recommend it. I have to hit my drum a lot harder then when on the PS2, and not all hits register. I tried Xpadder and the GlovePIE script.

I would like to know if anyone can recommend an adapter to use with the Taiko drums? Loginer said on the 1st page that the Trio Linker Plus II was a good adapter, but does that mean it registers all hits normally?
kinolee
I know this is like, mad necroposting but I spent an hour searching for info and about this and trying different things with my controller, and am hoping that a bump isn't so bad because it just took me a while to figure things out even with the search. EDIT: lol, someone else actually commented in between the time I loaded the page and posted @_@

I use a Super Dual Box, which has worked flawlessly for me in other programs with my PS2 DualShock and a few different DDR mats in various programs (and I got the DualShock to work in osu!CTB mode just fine the other day). However, I'm having the same problems with lag and sensitivity as other posters have said. For some reason I got a page error for the GlovePIE download and it didn't work, so I just did some trial and error doing the configs with Joy2Key -- some of my default configs were different from what was in the script so it wouldn't have worked anyway... so I'm thinking that Lapin might possibly have had some config issues if they're not getting ANY hits?

Anyhow having to hit SO hard gave me a headache so I ragequit earlier. TBH, I was never that good in Taiko so I'm thinking that some of this might be my own suckage, so I'll try some practice and messing with the offset next time. Or maybe I'll just do something stupid like use my IIDX controller. >_>

Also, curious if the Wii controller has the sensitivity issue? The song in the above video was a slow one, so I couldn't compare it with my experience earlier.
Espionage724
Here's an incomplete list of PS2 adapters:

Reported Sensitivity/Response Issues:
RadioShack Playstation to USB Game Adapter (26-304) http://img93.echo.cx/img93/7900/controller29um.jpg
Mayflash Super Dual Box http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/3 ... AA300_.jpg

Possibly Working:
Trio Linker Plus II http://www.hkems.com/product/ps2/images ... II%200.jpg

Not working:
Dilong PU 203 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/3 ... AA300_.jpg

- Mayflash Super Dual Box apparently has a red LED, and the Dilong PU203 does not? The Dilong PU203 has reported issues with StepMania (something with D-Pad?)

There is this setting in osu!'s options menu that would appear to make it as simple as pairing it over bluetooth and then ticking that option, but does that option actually work? It says "(not yet)" but is that for the wiimote support or both that and the TaTaCon?

Edit: Just realized how old the original post was, but I'm still curious about if the Wii TaTaCon is actually supported or not

I received RedOctane taiko drums not long ago, but can't get them to work with Goigame ps2/ps3 usb converter cable... (link)
Cable just doesn't send any key presses to PC. I think it's because PS button should be pressed, but there is no such a thing on the cable
Any ideas of what can be done? ;w;
kinolee
Wow, forgot I posted here. To update, I honestly only tried the Taiko controller once again, after I got some practice, and the response was still crap. I think I'll give up on that for now. As a side note, I got my IIDX controller working with J2K in osu!, which made me lol. Maybe I should try the Pop'N controller to complete the trifecta?! :O

And Kert, I can't speak from experience because I don't have that adapter, but I browsed through the reviews from the link you posted and it doesn't seem to work for other music controllers (there have been posts about Guitar Hero, Rock Band and DDR peripherals)... so it's doubtful. D: Are there any drivers that come with the adapter, maybe?
Kert
Nope.
I am now in the process of finding some other cable, but I can only think of a mayflash one D:
kinolee
Like I said, the Mayflash is what I use, and I'd normally highly recommend it. But trying to get Taiko to work in osu! is the first time I've ever had problems with it, so if that's what you're going to buy it for... :S
Kert
Yay. Got Mayflash 3 in 1 magic joy box controller adapter today. Works well
The only problem is that I need to hit with a lot of force (My guess is that's because the drum wasn't used for ages probably)

@OnosakiHito: i can't download glovepie look at this ==> Warning! Use of this product (or any other electrical technology) will destroy the planet with Global Warming <== in http://glovepie.org/glovepie_download.php

you could have just pmd him...

hello everyone i'm late with this i got a hold of ps2 drums and wanna know what i need to play the drums on osu i'm looking at this layflash adapter and wanna know if that's all i need to buy ?
RubyGoldberg
I know this thread is ancient, and I doubt the people who posted in it years ago will read this, but the likely reason that you feel like you have to hit the pad very hard is probably because of the sticks that come with the ps2 taiko drum. Compared to actual drumsticks they are very light and not weighted properly. Even a cheap pair of drum sticks will apply a larger force for objects that weigh only slightly more, and will probably provide a better feel and feedback from the drum. Just my two cents.

I got some actual drumsticks and nothing really changed. I have to hit it really hard for it to register, but when I play on my actual PS2 I barely need to touch the thing for it to register. I feel like it's a driver issue, but I dont know where to start.
PatZar
it works, but when i playing taiko that won't work lol
