It has happened several times now, I have sorted my collections and osu! crashes or I get a bluescreen after a while and decide to keep the craptop off.
I log back in the next day and it starts rebuilding the song database, I go and check my collections and they're all gone except for the ones that are saved in text mode (Favorites A & B)

1. Have a nice set of collections (Favorites A & B don't count)
2. Crash/get a bluescreen/do anything else to close osu!/windows abnormally.
3. Restart pc/osu! and wait a moment while osu! rebuilds the corrupt song database from scratch.
4. Check collectiosn and see how they're all missing except for Favorites A & B.(because they're textmode)

I don't have any examples because I can't really record the happening of a bluescreen and I don't know how to simulate an osu! crash.

Well.... I think it's pretty intended? If you crash, while program is doing something on text / database files, they'll mostly like be broken after you come back. It happens EVERYWHERE afaik.
But you can check out if you have collection.db in your osu! installation.

well I have a collection.db here because it was remade (I believe)

From my experience, this file is saved ONLY upon exit.... And it shouldn't delete itself, if you for ex:
Made collection
Closed osu!
Opened osu!
Made some more collections
Crashed
Afterwards collection from before second opening of osu! should not be affected D; (But I may be wrong).

Independently of how it works - you SHOULDN'T get crashed after all. I don't think it'll be changed.
You can use my tool to backup collections t/130512 :3

it actually sees the songs database as corrupt then and rebuilds everything, so the collections go poof

ooh thank you! I'll use that when I decide to make some collections again ^-^
I can't really prevent crashing because my crappy laptop is pretty beaten up and crashes every now and then, and I'm too poor to buy a decent computer right now so this is great! :з
