from where did people get used to call bedrooms "caves"?
It's a manner of speech that takes advantage of exaggeration for effect. Take for example: retard to describe stupidity or ignorance; gorilla, psycho, spook, insane to describe great skill at something; or Jew to describe avarice, greed, and/or wealth. Due to their use in this context, the word loses its literal, dictionary meaning and attains a more colloquial one. Determining which or what that definition is requires inquiry or inference from the observant party's end.
To explain and illustrate this point, take how Jazz has used the phrase "that cave of yours you call a room." Describing a mess through a manner of speech like this can take many forms, but the point of it is to say that the room is a mess. It can be called a horse stable, hole, dungeon, catastrophe, landfill, trash can, dump, gravitiationally-significant piece of shit, neutron star, black hole, Emiya Shirou, and/or a field with high levels of entropy, among many others. Jazz has picked "cave" here to illustrate and imply that Vinyl there is a primitive creature of sorts lacking certain key traits.
Basically it doesn't mean that cave has overpowered the more formal and still common form, bedroom. It's just there as an attack on the person.
Now if you're trying to be a smartass I'd highly recommend becoming smart first.
