I made my account very recently, and when I tried downloading a beat map a window popped up saying "Open File With:" and osu! wasn't one of the options. I was going to just not download the beat map, and close the window, but i accidentally clicked "Adobe Acrobat" because my hands where shaking a lot. So now when ever i click to download a beat map it downloads into Adobe Acrobat; and when I click on it in Adobe Acrobat it says "this file type is not supported or has been damaged". I don't know if I'm just dumb, or if my laptop is just weird. (I have a hp 15-bw0xx laptop.)

future me insert link to video when your phone is working again

osu! version: Stable 20191006.1 (latest)

It probably says it is damaged because Acrobat doesn't know what to do with the file. You will likely need to reassociate the file type with osu! if you want to be able to click on it and have it automatically open with the game. Try giving this a read. It's probably the same thing that you did before, but instead of stopping at the default options that Windows suggests, you need to scroll down a bit and manually search for osu!.exe.

You can also drag osz files into the osu! window manually to import them, regardless of which program they are set to open with.

Death is right, you need to find Osu!.exe when selecting the option "Open with..."

As for how it opens in adobe acrobat automatically, I would suggest you first download the .osz file, but dont' open it. Once you have it downloaded, locate the file and right click on it, then choose the option "Open with..." and then search for Osu!.exe

Once you do that, it'll automatically open in Osu from now on.
