I've had no luck trying to do so myself, but I've read that some others are able to do it just by disabling the Wacom services when they run hawku's. I'd like to be able to do that, but the only way I've gotten the hawku driver to work was by uninstalling the Wacom driver entirely

are there any extra steps I can take other than disabling said services?

if it matters, I use a Wacom CTH680 on Windows 10, and I'm swapping between the latest versions of both drivers

Try the following steps:
  1. Press the windows key+R, a run box will pop up, type there "services.msc.
  2. Scroll down until you see "Wacom Professional Service".
  3. Right click it -> Stop.
Hope you'll be able to run the other drivers without having to uninstall them.

that's what I meant by disabling the services in the OP. I already tried that (also tried disabling the various Windows input services and their dependents)

Maybe the people who claim to have been able to simply disable the Wacom service and run hawku's drivers were not on Windows 10?

I found this issue on the repo for the drivers. I've never downloaded or used these drivers, and I didn't really look through the repo, so I have no idea what the file is/does (or if it even still exists), but it sounds promising. Might be worth checking out.

that file is a utility to stop all the wacom services for you. while it's helpful, it still didn't do the trick for me... I must have something pretty specific to my case then, I think I'll just open an issue there soon if I can't figure it out myself

Yeah that's probably the best logical step. Not sure if this is related to your issue either: https://github.com/hawku/TabletDriver/issues/242

I'm the person that replied to that post :p

I think I posted it before you replied, I don't recall there being any replies before. Or maybe I just looked at it the other day and then copied the link without checking it again. Now you're 2x as aware of the issue :p
