Mod Restricted Chart #1

It's time for a new type of chart. This chart is unique in that you are limited to which mods you are allowed to use on a per-song basis, so you will need to have very all-rounded play style to succeed! It should be noted that "No Mods" means you CANNOT use any mods. No Video and Sudden Death mods have been set to work with all songs. As this is the first chart of its kind, please inform me IMMEDIATELY if any issues arise. The prizes listed below will be awarded to the winners in each of the 3 modes of gameplay.

Prizes:
1st place (overall score):
  1. Up to $50 of merchandise from the cafepress store (you can request items which are unavailable but on this list, too!)
  2. 1 year supporter tag
  3. Profile badge
2nd place:
  1. 6 months supporter tag
3rd place:
  1. 3 months supporter tag
End Date: 10th January 2011 @ 23:59 (GMT+8)

This seems very interesting, I wouldn't be able make it, especially since I suck with DT and FL, but I might try to get a decent rank in the chart. Do the scores apply to the whole mapset, or just the hardest diff? So getting if you play only the easiest diff, you still get points unless you get more on the hardest.

I have an issue regarding this;

Are the scores calculated over all maps? Or are the prizes handed to the No mods list?

I.E: I do all the No Mod songs, but for a better chance at winning with a higher score, I'd need to do the modded ones too?

Kinda hard to explain, but I just want to know if all maps count to the majority score.

It works like a normal score. So yeah, it just takes the highest score you achieved from any 1 difficulty of a song.

So,
In this chart the map to specify where the mod is not allowed to use other MOD, otherwise it will not record scores?

Yes. You MUST use the mod designated, and no other mods, or the score will not submit towards the chart.

Ever thought about doing a chart competition for ranks below 2000 or so? At the moment it's always just a few pros that are really the only people that have a chance of winning while the thousands of average players just watch by.

Anyways this is pretty cool

But there will be no normal chart this month then?

I like this idea, just one thing about the chart page. It would be nice if each entry displayed which mod is required to play with. Currently that info is only displayed in this thread.

Also, just to clarify, it seems you *MUST* use the specified mod for the play to count.

i.e. I played Cross Time last night with no mods and it didn't count. I turned on Hard Rock and it counted.

It should be noted that:
A. I'm really good at this game, and I have a lot of SS's and 1 100 scores. and
B. Some of the scores you took a screenshot of were actually me testing this chart. and
C. Not every score you see there is with the correct mod.


But yeah, I chose songs I liked, so what.

No, I just passed it with Hidden+HardRock and the ranking chart didn't list at the end.

I mean people who aren't cookiezi or doomsday level pros, "average players" might have been too much of a generalization :P

Basically we need a ranking chart for the rest of the playerbase as well. The current ranking chart system favours the top few godlike players too much while leaving everyone else impossible to win.

Tiers, that's what. Each month, ranking charts for certain ranks.

Ranks 1-200

Ranks 201-500

Ranks 501-1000

Ranks 1001-5000

Ranks 5001+

Problem with that is your current rank isn't always indicative of skill. There's a degree of correlation but that's it. Some really pro players who've just not done so many maps, or played it a while back and stopped will be in the lower ranks and easily crush anyone else in the same range. Also what if someone crosses ranks? If during a play of all the maps in say, the 1001-5000 chart, you briefly peek at #972, are you going to start hoping your rank falls below #1000 again so you qualify?

I'm not saying I'll be a winner, but for those that do end up in the top 3, what if they already have the donation tag? Can they give away that prize? I'm asking because I know its very possible to win and already have it.

Even if you can't win, isn't it fun to at least try and see how high you can rank? I usually don't play charts since I either A) don't play much due to uni; B) already played some of the songs when they were ranked; or C) feel that it's useless to compete when the same pro players win each month. However, a special chart like this using old classics with a new spin should be fun to attempt, no? :p

A certain account join date limit, like registered two months ago to be able to participate, and an activity limit (must have a certain amount of map plays per month, maybe 300?). I guess that would work? And restrict the "big prizes" to the top tiers. The lower tiers could have something smaller, something that doesn't cost money like the highest tier chart prizes (supporter for a year etc).

The skill thing is true, yeah. About the "peeking", I was thinking about staying in the tier that you first started in even if you go into a higher one during the month.
