Hai guys, I use the trackpad (the little rectangle on your laptop) and keyboard. I'm having fun practicing my AR9 maps, tho my stamina is pretty bad. But, let me ask, as I am improving my skill, how do you trackpad players get better at reading faster beatmaps?
Normally I would grind 3-4 stars with HD/NC, but how do you get to those AR9.5-10 without brainless smashing?

There aren't any trackpad players that do well end of discussion.

Unless you have a laptop with a really nice and large trackpad, you're going to be severely handicapped when using one. Most trackpads are too small and don't track well enough to keep up with faster beatmaps. Honestly, I'd suggest just using a mouse.

I use a msi laptop. The trackpad was well built and much more sensitive and accurate than my mouse.
(I even use it to play cs)

So, do you have any advice, or are you all going to tell me that trackpad is not a secure way to play. Maybe your trackpad doesn't track well, but mine is better than a lot of tablets my friends use.
silmarilen
other than "switch to mouse or tablet", trackpad players will get exactly the same advice as mouse/tablet players.. (play more)
so yeah, that's the only advice you're gonna get.

if you want to know anything else, check out the countless posts and stickies on this subforum

there's hardly any trackpad players so i don't think you'll be getting much advice other than play more
StephOsu
meeting a trackpad player in osu is like meeting a shiny starter pokemon in pokemon
but apparently we found 2 trackpad player within a month
time to buy lottery

OT : play more and get good and be the top trackpad player so you can help other trackpad player to be as good as you good luck

(sorry if i scatterbrain at times!)

Try the "maximum" songs you can try to do.
What I mean is, what you can just barely pass (or a song you can partially do but screw up at X point, usually the end), spam it. Try not to NF, just spam it. That's how I got "decent" not pro [which I'm not even sure that category exists for ttb (tracktouchpad) yet,] but I know enough to know how to keep breaking forward.

Just know, there are walls you will hit, though this whole year I hit them, a lot, sometimes really hard. But keep a calm mindset and you'll get to where you may want to be eventually. Osu! can be tough when you think you hit the absolute peak you think you can go.

Also breaks. While breaking that "skill wall" is amazing, just make sure you don't break your hand in the process.
If ya hand starts hurting, its okay to call it a day. Don't push it, its not fun.

Speaking of not fun, if you reach a point where you think "I honestly don't think I can do X thing", try to have this mind set "I didn't do that and can't do that, yet". Know your limits, but call it off temporary when you need to so you don't mess up something important. If you get frustrated at times, a osu! hiatus I personally do can help a lot.
As it implies, just don't play osu! for x amount of time, comeback with a (hopefully) clearer mind. Actually that works for anything you are allowed to set aside if you have the time to do it.

Beatmap wise: https://osu.ppy.sh/s/138369 "I Burn" is what I personally spammed until I could actually pass those level of difficulties. Try "Mao's Hard" first. Don't rush the Insane. Just like everyone's osu! life day one, skipping difficulties is crazy and leads to lots of "Nope". I tried Mao's Hard day 1 when I first joined just to see what 3 stars looks like, needless to say I learned there are some areas you just aren't ready for yet.

Remember to try to have that "yet" mentality I mentioned earlier! Nothing beats doing a year with osu!, and looking back on old replays to see how far you've gotten. (To anyone who thinks they sucked then or now, just note I got a B on the tutorial but when I attempted it with NF a few days after that I got a D. There's progression and there's, "I'm done for now") We all had a "oh god I'm the most garbage player ever" moment. Happens to all of us. Just remember they're only moments, keep going for as long as you can keep that motivation flowing!

If you just want to get just outright raw better at the game (though it's a bit tough to do), spam HR on literally everything. This is the only time I'd recommend NF since HR has no charity if you mess up. But the trade off is your everything is improved but unlike playing normally, HR is really hard to break in. I'm still trying to attempt HR Insanes. I'm not to that point yet. AR 9.5-9.8 is my max, AR 10 is out of the question.

PS: Going on from StephOsu's comment, if we're shinny Pokemon, then does that make the hypothetical-magical girl-mythological being(s) being pro-ttp player(s) shiny legendary(s)?

Hope that helps!

OT: playin with trackpad is just harder than mouse/tablet and maybe impossible to reach high stars with
even tho if your trackpad tracks better than your mouse it wouldn't make a big differnet.. trackpad seems to have limits but you never know till you try right ?
if you enjoy the trackpad keep going with it and pls enjoy the game

You'll be better off playing mouse/tablet

Doesnt trackpad have input lag?
Vuelo Eluko
get a real input device..

The highest ranked tablet player is #1 -> Facts say it's the best choice.
The highest ranked mouse player is #9 -> Facts say it's a good choice.

There's no way the top trackball/trackpad player is even pushing 6k pp [3 digit rank].. Heck he's probably under 4k pp.
I have no proof to back this up but it seems obvious to me.

Here's the 'best' video of trackpad gameplay i could find, and go figure he stopped using that method of input.

Not very impressive if you ask me.

The one I got is of a 5+ year old laptop and it doesn't really have any that I've noticed.
Usually any "miss" I get is purely my fault (unless some random variable occurs such as lag).

Also side-note, I've only owned one actual PC.
Everything else I've gotten over the years are laptops and I've gotten too used to the tracktouchpads. Also I like the convenience of just being able to play wherever and having my arms already elevated. I'm too deep in and its to a point where every PC game I play is with tracktouchpad.
RSI is minimal if not nonexistent ,unless you're doing something you shouldn't like play for 10 hours straight.

It isn't the best option, but I don't want #1, I want to have fun, and I'm having lots of it.
That is until this ancient laptop dies. If that happens imma just get an actual PC but with scissor-switch keys and a tracktouchpad in the center.

I regret nothing.

Isnt that one of those absolute positioning trackpads?

You need absolute tracking mouse pad. As far as I know you can get at least 3k pp https://osu.ppy.sh/u/2133362

"After some research, I have determined that the best way to play is with touchpad, because fingers give better control than pens or mice."

so delusional

Welp.. I use trackpad and recently found out great wasy to get up to the 5-6 star ranking. I use a Mac book air trackpad with an OVERALL sensitivity on the fourth tic. I'd only recommend using trackpad on mac because those computers tend to be more responsive. Then in OSU. I have sensitivity to 4.99 (5.0) with mouse acceleration off. I also use something like toilet paper. I get a small square of hit and put it on top of my trackpad. I also get some glue (sometimes if im playing online) and glue it to my paper. This allows me to move at higher speeds and almost play at tablet level. Then I go onto beatmaps and practice like usual. I play maps I can't play (hard) and eventually before i knew it, I completed my first 5 start beatmap! It took a while but after I grinded for about an hour on the map, I finally beat it! I recommend practicing 4 start maps (no HR or NC) and try to do jumps and streams. Those are the hardest for trackpad players.

Stop using trackpad.
OniGagaku
I'm impressed. I would've never thought that someone could play with the trackpad O.O
Seriously though, at least change to mouse. You'll notice a difference :D

Thanks for all the tips and warnings! Well, the learning curve to get to those 6stars is certainly hard. Here is a random multi I did with a dry run through on an easier 5 star map: (I fail the first 40 seconds)

Oh and I'm playing on 5.5 sens

Btw: In case people were wondering. I started out with mouse, then my mouse died so I switched to a trackpad. It's pretty worn out. I tried my friend's tablet, but my hands hurt after holding the pen for a while. My skill did instantly go up though, I manage to get through half of Image-Material, and then I hit the longer streams

Bruh seven years.

Though I play on trackpad, I can find no difference between mouse and trackpad.

This guy acknowledged that this is 7 years ago but decided to post on it anyways lmaooooo

I misread that as "Best 7 years" lmao

I'm pretty sure that you're necroposting.

Honestly, I never been a trackpad player before, I used to be a based mouse player since I joined, but if feels much better if I use a tablet.

I CAN!

The area of some trackpads are unfortunately so small that I had to sometimes swipe my finger twice to hit the jumps xP
But I was able to pass some 3* maps until it was worn out then I used a mouse with my new laptop, because the old one was slow and heavy...
