Problem Details:

I'm currently running osu on an Msi ge60 2pe (Windows 8.1 JP) and my fps will never seem to go above 300. I've checked that all power saving settings are off to my knowledge, and my computer is set to high performance. I've updated the Nvidia drivers, updated windows, and it's still capped. With the specs my computer has I know it's not the hardware, and this is consistent both when it's plugged in and when it's on battery. I'm running osu with DirectX on fullscreen. I've been trying to fix this all day but can't figure it out for the life of me so I figured I'd try posting here to see if someone could help :?

Specs:

CPU: Intel i7 4720hq
GPU: Nvidia GTX 860M
RAM: 4gb

Any suggestions at all help and please ask if there's any additional information I can supply! :)

osu! version: 20150401.2 (latest)

Update: Running in compatibility mode for Windows 7 caps my frames at around 500 but with what seems like a reduction in sound quality. Still trying to work out a permanent proper solution.

Nothing's wrong with 300fps if you're still stuck at 60Hz monitor. If you have a 300Hz+ monitor then you can start to worry (which you won't be able to find one). It won't make a difference if you have 300 or 500fps when you have 60Hz monitor.

If you have a 144HZ monitor then I see no point still of getting your fps above 288 (or even 240).

In other words, you won't get performance improvements. Just a waste of resources.

If you still want to try to increase your fps then try disabling/enabling special effects and see if that makes a difference.

I have mine capped at 240 and set my laptop monitor to 120Hz (a multiple of 240) and I get the best performance than any other settings without also draining my resources too much. It looks better than 60Hz but although doesn't look as good as 144Hz, I can make my monitor go up to 160Hz xD

I know my screen can't refresh that much but for me it's more about the placebo effect which for some reason helps me play better :?

The game is rendered in a way that makes it so higher fps have less input lag. 1000fps has around 8-10ms less inputlag.

Ah so it wasn't just me, thanks for clearing that up! Thought the whole thing was in my head :)

Monitor your GPU usage and clockspeeds and see if it's actually under relatively heavy load or not.
This sounds pretty normal to me though.

Usually osu will put my gpu under about 30% load and my cpu at about 25% when I look at process explorer. When I open osu I can see my fps in the bottom right be at well above 1000fps but goes quickly down to 300fps +-10. So I don't think it's a hardware limitation but if I can post any logs to help solve this I'd be more than willing

Edit: it seems like this user has a similar problem: http://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/comment ... nd_300fps/

I know that Process Explorer shows the GPU usage wrong for HD Grahics 4000, so it might be wrong for your GPU. Make sure you see how many cores it detects by clicking on the "engines" button. Mine shows this and that is not correct; I have only 1 core. Notice how only engine 9 is doing something and the others aren't. So take a look at individual engines and make sure they aren't being capped.
