Hello and greetings, I've coded a little visual extension for the osu! website.
What it does is - doesn't show the Daily Challenge, Lazer Mode (button), and the recently forced "Classic" Mod icons :D

If you still want to see some random guy's sores or sum, you can turn off the extension and briefly turn on Lazer Mode.

How to get this extention?

1) Go to your browser's extension store and search for "Stylus"

2) Add that extension

3) Go to your osu! profile and open the extension

4) Click on "Find"

5) Click on the No!Lazer extension when you've found it and that's it

I hope this makes osu! a better place :)

After:

Also, I nicely re-designed the Download page:

Also, if you have any suggestions, feel free to tell me them :)

I think a lot of people have a problem with Lazer shit being shoved into their faces, without being able to turn it off

And yes this is not a downgrade or an upgrade, this is a visual extension…

Interesting interesting

Anyway, yes this is supposed to be anti-lazer so idk, and man I spent so much time on the download page cmon, “cringy” is not what I wanted to hear ;(

edit: I forgot about the daily challenge display on the Home Page upsie ;)

I can past this thing into my existing stylus theme lol

Sure sure :)

Honestly, even if I would like lazer, I feel like this should still be optional, especially the Classic Mod

This would be funny as an April fools' joke. Nevertheless, great work! :D

Thanks so much for the support man <3

I completely agree, it should not be pushed upon people.
The idea that I'm getting is that the Devs are trying to make Lazer look like the *norm*, and make stable players (75%) feel like they are in the outdated version (that is still better than Lazer after not being updated for like a decade lol)

And they are using all types of tactics to make ppl switch, like using manipulative wording, when advertising Lazer, like dawg, you can't manipulate people like that, and I can guarantee that no one is going to switch unless the "Classic" mod is gonna be ranked in Lazer. And when they realise that they are going to try to severely buff the pp coming from Lazer, or think of some other types of propaganda or greedy tactics to make people play what they don't want to play.

That's one of the reasons I despise Lazer. And I cannot wait to see what else Peppy will think of to keep this facade running

Truth to be told, when osu! currently doesn't have a good accessibility option to disable lazer-related things appearing (The one they have doesn't do the job well), having a nice lil extension that does the job is always nice. I sincerely wish everyone is open-minded enough to appreciate the effort of making such things, ESPECIALLY when it might actually help certain people, AND I bet OP has zero ill-intention when making this extension (Like causing the so called "Stable and lazer war", why this even exist).

Sorry that this is your first post just because you want to type all that.

I can't help but feel that their strategy is just to have newer players replace the old ones. That's the most charitable way to interpret all of this, that they never actually cared if we like it or not. Most players didn't like scorev2 and we saw where that went, but the new players don't have a preference, so I guess the devs prefer them.

Pretty much. The devs are so focused on "the new osu" they're forgetting that they're slowly but surely alienating their playerbase. I wonder how it's gonna look when lazer becomes the only alternative to play online....

it's basically the same as lazer's, and what would you want to look at anyway? Code errors? Besides it's just funny to me how it hasn't recieved any big updates in over a decade, but it's still better than Lazer
iwuvkittens
i highly doubt that it's any where near the same as lazers, if you are really asking what i would want to look at then i would classify you as a normie who could get by with non oss software me on the other hand would rather not have some random spyware (possible) running on my computer

right right because tomato or tomato, you are just so cool thinking that everything in the world is out to get you, thank goodness that you are using open-source applications only
iwuvkittens
it's not about me specifically looking at the code, it's about others having access (including me) to vet and be able to easily change it, as you can see where it's being hosted (github) anyone has access, anyone can submit a merge request to have a change merged into a branch. and thats the beauty of oss.

now that I underdstand. just make stable open-source then. easy.

no point since lazer exists and it's the next big thing, and i'm already using it and loving it even though i am new to the game. just need to move on from the past, regular osu probably has spaghetti code

spaghetti shmagetti, it works, and that's what matters, it all comes down to preferences anyway

I think I will just put my two cents here. I won't comment on playing though, I am a mapping main, and I don't really care about those intricate scoring stuff which I think there is no One Correct Way to do.

Timing: Lazer wins. You have the nice waveform below the ticks, and you only need to look to see if everything aligns up, making it a lot more faster than vanilla stable.

Std: No comment. I find the lazer editor usable, but I have never ranked maps in std so feel free to discredit me.

Taiko: Lazer wins. Interface is closer to gameplay, no more manual scrolling needed. I also don't need to get annoyed by whistles instead of claps as a modder. For pure editing though, still not as good as Alchyr's editor.

Catch: No comment, I don't play catch and I don't map catch.

Mania: Stable wins. Just look at the missing diff comparison tool, that help a real lot when I am mapping a guest diff between two other diffs as a mapper, and when I need to check out spread issues as a modder. I really wish taiko have this feature too, but not even stable has that.

Storyboarding: Stable wins, lazer haven't implemented storyboard editing in its editor. Most use third party tools for storyboarding anyway...

Verify: Lazer wins. Feature wise not on par with the tried and true Mapset Verifier, but already ahead of stable AIMod by a large margin.

Thanks, I hate lazer with a passion, I’ll never switch to lazer. I’m glad that 80% of players are still playing on Stable.

This feels like a big "fuck you" to the dev team who's been pouring tremendous amounts of work into making a new game, only for people to create web extensions to delete every reference to it and call it a "fake version" just because they can't get over the fact that new interesting mods are gonna get ranked and HDHRDTFL SS won't mean #1 on leaderboards in the future

You have the right to dislike lazer, I have noticed that lazer still lacks some stable features and a lot of stable friends tell me that lazer feels different in a bad way. This is normal for a new game - emulating everything 1 to 1 is impossible when the whole game engine of the previous game is thrown in the trash. But making a whole extension just to delete lazer is a bit too much, don't you think?

Like, sure... delete Classic mod icon but... what will you do when the biggest players in the world start using rate change or Traceable because it grants more pp? Hide their scores just because they have the audacity of not using the "only real osu! version"?
iwuvkittens
the post is ragebait
ziv_vy
Given the fact that it was actually coded in, it's definetly not.
iwuvkittens
who says u cant code and ragebait at the same time
ziv_vy
If you actually code and distribute it as a perfectly functional product, then IMO it is no longer ragebait. Or it may just be my instincts trying to defend myself from obious bait idk

This extension is actively used by like 50 people, 50 people found it genuinly useful.

(also I have met people who hated lazer by so much that they'd probably install this)

First of all, rate-change isn't going to get ranked cmon, second of all, what lazer is is a big "fuck you" to the player base, by forcefully and with mentally manipulative tactics, making players play Lazer.
And no, making an extension to hide elements that have nothing to do with people playing stable is not too much. It is a really disgusting way to make stable players feel like what they're playing is some trash that's going to be thrown out.

Although I was kind of trolling with the download page, but it's just smth that no one will notice anyway, the main thing is still removing, at the minimum, the forced Classic mod

And for me, I played the Daily Challenge 3 times, I don't want it permanently pinned on my profile as a reminder that I'm not playing osu! (lazer too sure) daily like some fucking Duolingo application, I bet the next osu! website update is going to be putting Daily Challenge: 0 on every profile where the person hasn't played it.

dawg the dev team is also hiding stuff, thankfully, you have to enable lazer mode to see those scores

and yeah I'm gonna eventually get to hiding all of the selection filter mods and what else mods from the profile page as well, also gotta figure out how to hide the scores along with the mods changes

Don't fucking use my extension if you don't like it. Imagine if it were just a simple visual modification and not, in your mind, an attempt to flip off Developers and Lazer players.

I actually hope that they see this and make some changes, like uhh making the Classic Mod and Daily challenge show up only when Lazer mode is on, then I would actually delete this extension, cuz there would be no purpose for it. Feel free to make an issue about this, if you're so hurt by me removing some elements from a website : )
