Pain in finger joints?

Ever since I have begun going into faster 4-6 stars, when I overstrain my fingers a bit, I feel a pain around the upper joint of the finger, its not a sharp pain but still feels like something close to the bone. Its like a pressure directly on my finger bones

Is this normal, or should I take a particularly long break to recover or change my finger positions?

I'm just checking to see whether this could possibly be a serious problem and not just classic overstraining.

Pain there definitely doesn't seem normal. I highly doubt you move that specific joint when tapping (if you are somehow able to!?!?!?).

My best guess is that it has to do with tapping posture. That joint, for me at least, only wiggles with an up and down motion while touching a surface. So what I think is happening is that you are tapping so fast/hard with the finger very flat on the key that it does some sort of seesaw/bending motion that ends up hurting you. Curl in your fingers enough so that such a seesaw/bending motion is minimized or preferably doesn't happen at all.

are you hitting the notes like you need the key to scan your fingerprint? because firstly your fingerprint isnt required — not even scanned — and secondly yyou hit it with the tip of yo fingah

Yeah, that makes quite a lot of sense. The pain usually comes when I do faster and more strenuous maps so I'll have to be more careful with how I play. I'll find a better keyboard position to play. Thanks for the tip.

should probably let that finger rest a bit from time to time. at some point, your tapping can suffer if you continue to play actively while still feeling the pain at random moments.

I speak this from experience, I can no longer press with my middle finger correctly; most of the time, it presses down with my index finger.
ring + index be lit though

i feel a similar pain usually when i have been doing push sessions for multiple consecutive days. For me just taking a break is fine, 2-3 days should be fine and when you get back to play remember to warmup properly.
