Problem details: every time i try play stable on longer maps i notice my latency slowly increases then my game will completely lock up making it unplayable for me to play any maps that are 3 mins or longer. ive noticed this is only an issue when playing when i have discord opened.

in the video provided below you can see my ram useage climbs and in turn so does my latency in game and then once it hits about 90ram usage my game starts to lag but you can also see as soon as i tab out of osu at the end of the recording the ram usage drops back down

for context i have 64gb of ddr5 ram:

If this is an issue with and only with discord being open, why do you think it is an osu! issue?

Does this issue happen if you don't have discord open and just have osu! and no other active applications running?

the reason i think this is an issue with osu is because this only happens with only with stable, i can open up lazer or any other game and experience no issues, maybe it might be with how discord interacts with games but considering this only happens with stable makes me to think an update that has either occured with discord or the latest stable update is causing it. i have played on stable for years with discord open and never experienced and issue up until recently.

I have more testing to do to find the exact cause as a discord setting might be causing it, something niche that stable does not like but im not sure. i am aware that discord switched their codecs recently as there was a common issue where media sent on discord would not play so they might have done more stuff behind the scenes.

My biggest reasoning for thinking the issue lies with stable is that in the recording i sent you can see as soon as i tab out of the game (at 1:25 in the recording) my ram usage almost instantly drops back down, i should have let it played out more before i stopped the recording but this is something i noticed after watching the recording back.

Edit: playing with just discord open it happened again and this time my entire osu crashed so im convinced its osu related:

is there a way to send a log of that crash so there is a way to get insight? i zipped my logs folder instantly after the crash and uploaded it to see if it helps

I have this happen to me as well. About once every few weeks I have to restart my computer in order to fix the unbearable lag. I don't quite know what's wrong, nor did I even think about it being related to Discord (I always have that open). It's interesting to know others have the same issue, just thought it was my computer.

I do not have the issue after restarting though, and it stays fixed for 2-3 weeks at a time.

Hi i am bumping this as i wish to see if anything can be done because like i pay for supporter and currently cant even play stable. im currently forced onto lazer which has its own issues which just makes me not even want to open the game

Does the issue happen if discord is not running at all?

from everything in this thread you are still running stable with discord open. Id like to see if you can not have discord open and stable runs fine, since if this is the case then its likely something on discords end or through your own computer.

Please test if this happens on latest cutting-edge, and also if restarting your PC fixes this (as mentioned by `Kizusuita`).

cutting edge did not fix it but after doing a fair amount of research and trial and error it seems to be something discord is doing when osu is in fullscreen.

switching the client to compatibility mode and windowed stops the stutters completely though it adds about 0.2/0.3ms latency to my client which personally is not an issue to me as my ms was 0.43ms before so im sitting at roughly 0.7/0.8ms which is not perceivable. im just happy i have finally figured out whats causing it/a solution.

also sorry for taking a while to respond back, i havent had much free time lately and only just got chance to trying this

I don't know if this is related to the stable client, but a couple of my friends had a similar problem on Lazer.

The solution was to disable all Discord overlays, maybe it's worth a try.

thank you for replying, i have all discord overlays off by default i really dislike them but no that didnt solve the issue either on stable

I wanted to update this thread as ive got some more findings. this is 100% a issue with windows 11, went back to win 10 and my game is better than ever. no issued whilst discord being up and it being streamed at the same time as playin. my ms on stable now is as low as 0.27ms while screen sharing.

apparently microsoft has messed something up when it comes to games that dont use a modern directx version.

"DirectX on win11 24h2" is aparently broken

edit: even as low as 0.24ms on stable: https://imgur.com/a/fBatLN9
