I formated my pc and tried to install Osu! again, it gave me an error so I searched the forums and did everything I could find, but it's still not working. The instalation starts normally, then I get this message:

"Failed to set folder permissions for osu! folder automatically. This may cause issues with your game."

And then:

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as a part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".

I reinstalled .NET (different versions from 2.0 to the latest), downloaded again the installer in case my copy got corrupted, I downloaded osume.exe and tried to run it (which gave me an instant "This program stopped working"), etc, and everything ended up giving me the same message when trying to install Osu! Any idea why this is happening? I didn't have any kind of trouble installing it the first time, before the formating.

Download the osu! installer again because the one you might have downloaded is a broken package then try to install osu! in a folder that's not Program Files.

I did download the installer again, like three times, before posting. Installing it in a different folder didn't work either.

Edit: It gave the same error, couldn't set up permissions or whatever.

Try downloading http://osu.ppy.sh/release/osume.exe and putting it into folder where you want to install osu!. Alternatively try running installer as admin.

Welp, didn't read to the end. What Operating System do you use?

Try uninstalling all .NET Framework installations from control panel and then install only this one http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... aspx?id=22

I uninstalled all of the .Net frameworks, but then there's XNA frameworks. Do I uninstall those as well?

I tried installing the one you told me, but my pc told me to just activate it, since it was already in the system. I activated it, restarted the pc so it could set up properly and it said there had been a problem and something from the new parts had not been activated. I still tried installing Osu! again, both in the usual folder and on my desktop, neither of them worked (it gave the same error as every time).

I'm on Windows 7, btw.

EDIT: I installed Osu long ago, then one day about two months ago I tried to open it and it wouldn't work. I thought reinstalling would help , but nope.
EDIT 2: Reposting.

My guess is that osu! doesn't have permission to make the proper folders. An easy way to fix this is to just install on a different computer and drag it over to yours. osu! install folder is portable.

I finally managed around to do that, but it didn't work either. Osu.exe doesn't even appear on the process window in the manager when I double-click it, and osume.exe instantly says it's stopped working.

Edit: I tried in three different folders (x86, desktop and root in a partition), none of them worked. It worked fine on the pc I installed it though.

EDIT 2: I got a bubble telling me I had a Windows update to do, got it on that and it worked perfectly fine afterwards using the migrated folder. I tried installing it, just to check, and it worked as well. Updater works for both too. Thanks everyone!
