I've seen people use really large cursors, it seems counter-productive, since you need precision for most maps, jump maps especially.
Is there a reason for this? Is a large cursor better than a small one, vice versa or up to personal taste?

I personally like using a smaller cursor than the default because it feels more precise, but as you said there are people who use larger cursors. Basically, its up to your personal taste and whatever helps you hit the beats accurately.

The largest cursor that I see people use is the pink one that a bunch of top players use and it's 60x60 (or at least it is in my skin). It's still smaller than cs4 with hr, so it's not going to be an issue with your precision unless you're playing smaller cs than that which is a rare case. Some people like having a bigger cursor for jump maps, thelewa said he does, I know I do as well. It all comes down to preference, WWW uses a tiny cursor.

taste, ive seen some really really good players use the standard cursor even
think, you dont look at your cursor while playing, thats why some people make them smaller so they intrude less. SapphireGhost has even been known to play with NO cursor [not touchscreen], although whether he does this for functionality or just to show off is unclear to me.

Large cursor (the pink one) helps me not to "lose" it on the screen during faster parts. Smaller, especially white ones tend to get lost when there's a ton of approachcircles, hitcircles and followpoints on the screen.

he uses a tablet pc, so he just holds his pen in front of his screen afaik, using a cursor would be pointless

Except you do look at your own cursor and SapphireGhost does use a touchscreen of sorts.

I don't know how you can play without looking at your cursor... do you intentionally look away when you aim at circles?

In general:

Larger Cursor
= See and locate cursor better
= Harder to hit smaller objects during game play

Smaller Cursor
= Ability to picture the objects larger then how they really appear.
= May not be able to see the cursor clearly (depending on the skin, and BG)

But yea, like skaiys said, it all depends on your personal taste.
I also happen to like using smaller cursors as well.

Hi. Cursor size is pretty much irrelevant. About 95% of all the improvements of smaller/larger cursors are placebo effects. Smaller circles are not harder to hit with big cursors, and small cursors, assuming you're not stupid and using a 3*3 px one, are not harder to see.
The only thing a cursor needs to be is easily distinguishable from the BG, so a bright color on dimmed BGs is usually best.

You don't want a cursor that so small it impairs your ability to follow it, or one that is bigger than the circles you're trying to hit. Other than that, it's pretty much just preference.

yup.
In the end, it just comes down to muscle memory.
I still use a 15x15 cursor now just because I like that it doesn't take up space on the map.

Unless the skin, and object colors itself are in dark colors. Again, it's based on people's personal preference.
What I've posted above is what I think about cursor sizes in general. No more, no less.

I think that a default cursor size is the way to go. I think it help me more because instead of trying to aim it, Ill just fit the cursor inside the hitcircle. That way I can get more consistent results.

personal preference

its just a cursor
shavit
The default one with red tint is a way to go for me.

pretty much a good idea

then again a small cursor helps reduce clutter on the playfield

theres reasons for both
Starry-
I switch cursors quite a bit, varying in size.
Big cursors for DT fast maps where I /need/ to be able to see the cursor.
Small ones for more aim related maps, requiring more precision.
