unironically there's no rhythm games that defines itself as an esport game... and osu! is no exception

however we have OWC and The Roundtable so we're good!

I'm hesitant to stop osu to go on league of legend because I like esports a lot but osu its good too

it's a solo game so teams are less forced and there is less real tested information, but if you are into a more self directed learning experience, the high level is pretty competetive.

There are plenty of tournaments being run in the Tourney part of the forums all the time.

Hell, I'm running a challenge of my own in the G&R right now, with another one in sign-ups for March (my sig is outdated because I can be lazy and distracted in that regard). I geared mine toward being accessible to anyone regardless of their free time, but if you have a weekend or so to play I would find a tourney in your rank range and sign up.
