remove the miss sound? or just get out of the habit of doing so, just play for fun and stop caring about score lol
Gamesnake7
Play mania for a while, gives you a mindset that misses =/= bad play

I can say this as a 4K main, I pretty much only retry if I get a lag miss or get a bad judgement (200s and below) on a note, both in the beginning of a map

rebind your retry binding to something you never touch

my keybinds are right next to the esc button and ive have tried that before and ti doesnt work since the esc button is right there (my keybinds are 2,3)

find a skin with acc in the centre (like cookiezi or my skin). And just focus on the acc.

Stop reactively reaching for the restart button. Keybind it somewhere so out of the way of your hands that it takes more work to go for it than not, or force yourself to go through the entire song (or, in my case, go until the last moments of the song where I feel safe about the ending and then restarting/exiting).

EDIT: Seriously, though, it's never going to always be fun and rainbows. Bear through the growing pains of not reflex-restarting by whatever means (the best is just to stop doing it period,), and you'll do fine.

If you see a miss, just recognize the feeling of wanting to go for the restart button. You won't (arguably can't) stop yourself the first handful of times, especially if it's really ingrained into your play. At the very early stages, the point isn't to actually stop it due to the inherent futility; the point is to recognize what you feel and the reactions you take to what you see. When you can pinpoint how you feel in that moment and the reflexes you take, then you can take action to stop them. Then sometimes you can stop yourself just short of hitting the button; sometimes, not all the time, since this can be a very hard habit to break. But you can do it.

With enough purposeful and practical application, you can stop yourself easier and easier.

you just don't lol

Just don't miss, then you never have to retry.

First you need to know why you automatically retry everytime you miss something, then you can work on a fix.

Or you can just unbind your ESC key and retry button.

Play the whole map through, then when you finish it you can retry at the result screen. That way, if it's a long map you will have some sort of muscle memory and a gut feeling what comes after a certain part, could be a stream or jumps.

I'd remap the retry key to a key far from your tapping keys

You take action based on your goals. If your goal is to hit every note you will want to retry when you miss.

Your goal should not be to FC or to get good acc or anything like that. Your goal should be to improve. Whether you FC or not does not affect your skill. An FC is a reflection of skill but it does not give you skill. Your focus should be entirely in the present moment, every note you try to hit should be hit with the intention to do your best and to improve. You want to be doing the best you can whether or not you are going to FC because the FC does not matter.

If you get the urge to retry your goal was actually to FC, not to improve. Observe that your emotions have changed your goals and bring your focus back on improving and not to get a good score.

Yeah but my goal is SS's so that's basically my go-to response.

I apparently have more self-control and can not auto-restart every time, though.

retrying the map is as ingrained in my playstyle as moving my cursor around or hitting my 3 key

As others have said, unmapping the retry key will help. Every time you fail to retry because you press the key that no longer works use that as a que to not retry and keep playing. Mindfulness is the key to breaking the habit.

It will take take time to change since retrying is ingrained in your muscle memory but eventually your new mindset and repetition of the right actions will correct your old habits.

Yeah its different depending on your goals. Restarting is ok for SS players.

You might be still processing why you missed or got low accuracy and so you wait a bit before retrying.

can't restart in multiplayer lobby

the dude probably couldn't handle that without getting silenced tbh

that's only kind of a joke, but yea playing multis could help with it, assuming you can find ones that play maps you should be playing.

most multis are 5 stars or higher. also people never want to join a 3 star lobby with 4-5 min maps
jaaakb
play offline
ITotallyGetThat
you can start your own multi lobby

no one else has to join it, you can play by yourself. it disables pausing / restarting, which is what you were asking for

If it is truly a mental gap, you need to remove the stimulus which makes your hands auto retry. I would either play offline where there is basically 0 incentive to play for FC (I did this when I had too much of an urge to farm some days). Or you could do an extreme method and run a skin that has no Combo or misses that show up, but this might be bad as you may think you play sections correctly, just to end up missing it all.
