i like seeing people of similar ranks profiles to see their top plays, find new maps etc.
so is there a way to see listings of normal players (without going on the player list when in game)

A ton of people has been asking for a feature like that for years now. Unfortunately you can't do such a thing. You could try going into multis with your similar star rating range or go to country rankings and try finding someone similar to your rank there.

You could scroll to where you are on the country leaderboard and look at the profiles around you. You should be around page 109 of the GB leaderboards. You can just replace the number in the website address to 109.

Is this a hard thing to do, coding-wise?

It doesn't sound that difficult to make a button that takes you to a list of players within about 500 ranks above and below you at it's most simplistic.

I'm not knowledgeable at coding so I can't really say. Maybe the osu devs are too busy working on lazer?

Check this: rankings/osu/performance?country=GB&page=110#scores
You can use this to check for people in the UK with similar ranks as you. But if you want to find people with similar ranks globally, you unfortunately can't do that using the leaderboards page until you reach the top 10,000.

(ik this was 2 years ago but i had the same problem and i wanted to try and fix it)

im pretty sure its not impossible, there have been features like that in other games. I tried making a button that when you click on your global/country ranking in your profile it takes you to the rankings. It worked, yes, but theres a problem when youre not a 4 digit. I just started web coding and html so im pretty sure its not a hard fix but ill try figuring it out in the near future.
