I keep seeing people say stuff like "that was a xxx bpm stream" and im just wondering how they know. It cant just be the songs bpm because streams on something like uta feel faster than a similar star rating of songs with higher bpm such as this https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1120645#osu/2341604

another example is this https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/291155#osu/655684 feeling slower than the deceit while having the same bpm

streams snapped to 1/4 (so 4 notes per white tick) are as fast as the bpm of the map would suggest

streams snapped to 1/3 and 1/6 are different

e.g 220 bpm streams snapped to 1/3 make 165 bpm streams: (3/4)*220=165

you can check out the notes per white tick in editor

Kinda offtopic, but guessing the bpm of a song is actually a really fun game. Whenever I watch my brother play songs I dont know, I always try to guess the bpm before the end of the map and I'm pretty accurate about it, +/-10bpm most of the time just from listening for a few seconds.

by ear/feel + seeing the map bpm. it's usually 1/4 1/3 1/6 1/2 1/8 timing if it's a stream

Usually there's a constant and consistent beat in the background of songs so I usually guess the bpm off of that

Can I tap it?

It's under 200 BPM

Can I not tap it?

It is over 200BPM

people usually can know the bpm of a stream by +5/-5bpm by just playing it and seeing how it feels to tap.

tho if that doesnt work you can just go to the editor, find the bpm and see if its 1/2, 1/4, 1/6 or even 1/8.

so if the bpm of the map is 100bpm then if its 1/2 then its 50bpm, if its 1/4 then its 100bpm, if its 1/6 then its 150bpm, and if its 1/8 then its 200bpm
