Problem details:
So I have been playing a while with around 400 fps and 2.5 ms, sometimes going up to 3-4 on a fast map and noticed that almost everyone I asked randomly had lower latency than me, some having over 2000 fps, and even those with much older systems. Although I assume that 1-2ms wouldn't make much difference, the thing that bothers me the most is random lag spikes that causes me to miss entire streams or jumps.

I have tried a bunch of fixed, including osu settings (fullscreen, optimal frame limiter, compatibility mode, reduced dropped frames, raw input, no v-sync etc), nvidia low latency mode set to ultra, set dedicated gpu as default card for Osu, enabled windows game mode, disabled all overlays, and updated drivers. None of these made any difference except compatibility mode, which increased fps during gameplay to 800, but the problem is that whenever I alt-tab, the game becomes glitched.

No background applications are open and Osu is also installed on SSD if that makes any difference.

Checking the task manager right after Osu gameplay shows that both integrated and nvidia GPU are being used by Osu, with intel gpu having really high usage while Nvidia hovering around 20%. I'm not sure if this is normal as I already set the nvidia one as default for Osu in the control panel.

Anyone having/had the same issues? Please help me troubleshoot, I just want Osu to run correctly.

Video or screenshot showing the problem:

CPU is i7 10870H
osu! version: Stable 20220406.3 (latest)

Edit: I even have storyboard, videos, hit lighting disabled.

do you have your laptop plugged in while you play?

also what do you mean by "whenever I alt-tab, the game becomes glitched."?

The alt+tab "glitch" you are experiencing is known to happen, and if you want it to stop then you have to turn off compatibility mode.

Just for clarification, look at the wiki link below and try anything in there to see if it helps. Make sure that there are no foreground/background processes that are stealing any resources that should be going to osu!.

Basically when I tab out I can never get back into osu again, not game breaking but extremely annoying, and yes its always plugged in.

Thanks but I have already tried every tip on there. Regarding the resource usage, from my screenshot of the task manager it shows that both CPU and nvidia GPU has really low usage, while the integrated gpu has high usage, which I assume is the problem here, but since I have already set the Nvidia GPU as default, I'm not sure what to do. I have also tried playing with Osu being the only thing open, but no noticeable changes in performance.

I see then it's fine, if compatibility mode works for you then use it.

and when you alt tab you can actually get back in to the game, you just need to keep alt tabbing basically.

Update: I have found the root of the problem - Nvidia Optimus

Tried osu with an external monitor connected through laptop HDMI port, got 2700 fps and 0.4ms. Sadly you cannot disable it if your laptop does not have a physical mux switch, in that case the only fix is to use an external monitor or get a laptop that has one, or just a PC.
