Started playing about 6 months ago currently 209k trying to reach 5 digit by the end of the year but I've currently reached a mental block after farming for about a month everyday. I didn't want to take a break so instead I wanted to try learning alt tapping because I think it'll help me stream because rn idk how to stream at all because I one trick jump maps because I single tap. I need some tips on how to learn how to alt tap because I've been struggling with my finger control it feels like they're trying to fight each other so I want to see how I can maybe try fixing the issue.

Let's say your brain has a pen, and it writes down what you do each day for osu. Then once it writes it down, you gain more skill on what it wrote down (ie. aim, speed, streams, etc.) But eventually, that pen is gonna run out of ink. And without ink, your brain can't write down what you did in osu for the day which in turn, slows down improvement, by a lot.

So now your brain needs to find a new pen to write with in order to make you improve more. But it can't do that if you keep playing. So just take a break, for like 3-4 days. And I promise you, after you derust, you'll be better than ever.

You can't keep playing such a straining game all the time, you need to have healthy breaks in order to keep improving. Just take a break, it's way less effort than trying to learn an entirely new skill. And if you're scared of losing your skill, then don't be. It literally only takes a couple of sessions to regain all that skill and improve even more. Way less time and effort than trying to push through learning something else and not having the guarantee that it'll help your improvement.

I've been wanting to take a break for the past week now honestly but I just keep wanting to go back and play. Maybe I'll take a 2-3 break once my classes start again in a few days hopefully I'll be able to get better. Thanks for the advice

Try asking support to lock your account for a certain amount of time. That way you can't play online unless the time runs out and they unlock the account.

Sounds a bit extreme just to take a break I'll probably just unpin it from my taskbar and avoid watching osu content because vids are usually the one that motivates me again to play

start basic with like triples and stuff and at first trying to learn alternating with the wrist instead of just with fingers

You don't really need to learn Alt to stream as I was a single tapper 2 months ago and could stream 170 bpm just fine.

Though alt tapping is definitely better for most circumstances so I would suggest to still learn it.

Anyways for learning Alt tapping I would suggest playing low star maps because playing high star maps will only take more concentration from you that you could otherwise put into learning Alt.

For starters you'll need to command your fingers to tap one after the other, Ex: left, right, left, right, left, right...

it will be hard at the start but it will become easier to the point that your fingers will automatically tap alternatively.

After you've somewhat learned alt, you can go to two different directions,

1. Full-Alt - As the name suggest it is the method of alt tapping in where you alt tap EVERYTING.

2. Semi-Alt - This method of tapping is where you alt tap section or patterns that are easy and then single tap sections or patterns that are hard.

Me personally, I chose Semi-Alt as I found it easier on Tech maps.

I'll probably just semi-alt because I think my index finger is considerably faster than my middle one but idk yet

practicing singletapping with your non-dominant finger worked wonders for me
can do bursts starting on any finger easier now (still bad tho)

other than that the advice from above are pretty solid already

The way I learned to alternate was to play easy maps while alternating and once I felt somewhat comfortable I would play most of the newly ranked maps while trying my best to alternate, and I can now finally alternate just about everything.
