Relatively New To Osu! Just got a Tablet (Star G640). Need Help Getting Established

So, I did look at the FAQ thread before I posted here. I think all the information being in one place - for me anyways - is rather overwhelming.

I just got a tablet - Star G640 by XP-Pen about a week ago. Before, I was playing with a mouse. I decided if I ever wanted to really up my game, I should just invest in a tablet. The G640 was actually being held at a reduced price through Amazon Prime (Yay Jeffrey!).

Anyways, I'm just trying to figure out what I need to be focusing on to get better. Should I be attempting harder maps? I struggle with most 3* maps.

This is what I've done so far:

-Downloaded & Installed White-Cat Skin
-Reduced Workspace area on tablet for easier mobility (might need help optimizing??)
-Gained about 1 month of experience just playing maps on 2*

I understand going from a mouse to a tablet can probably be a bit of a learning curve, especially since I am new to the game. I'm concerned that my tablet isn't optimized (rather the settings aren't where they need to be for the best play experience).

I hope the information I offered thus far is helpful so that someone can help me and point me in the right direction. I also don't mind communing through Discord and screen-sharing if that will help you help me. Whatever it takes.

Thank you!

You just need to play more. That's the long and short of it.

I don't play with a tablet so I can't help you there, but if you want some actual specifics, keep playing 2* maps. I understand that you're new, but your accuracy (or acc for short) is still atrocious across the board (again, understandable, but that's still the facts). What you should do first and foremost is work on getting high accuracy on all the 2* maps that you can, from short TV Size to longer maps at least 3 mins. or longer. Start with the ones that are A-ranks or less and get those to at least 95% acc, and from there add in more songs to that list. You really shouldn't even touch 3*'s yet beyond hazarding a play or two just for fun, as you're not ready for them just yet.

While you're doing that, get used to reading maps and working on your aim. There are some more advanced topics out there, for sure--Jumps, streams, finger control, etc.--but those should not be your concern at all at this point. At this stage your focus is on the fundamentals and getting the hang of your setup.

Oh, and another suggestion I usually see is to not use any mods (Hard ROck, hidden, Double Time, etc.) just yet. While the general point of when it's okay varies (I've heard as high as 2-3Kpp overall, which I don't ascribe to), it's still true that you shouldn't really be messing with them yet. Each of them adds in a gimmick or twist to the gameplay that can be fun but will ultimately not help you learn the skills you need to at this stage.

When you start consistently getting high acc. on 2* songs (I mean, 1 out of 100 or so songs you drop below 95%), that's when you can really start playing 3*'s. You can start a little bit earlier if you want, but that consistency is very key; it shows you have the basic idea of reading the maps and aiming well down. At that point, you're still not quite at the point where stuff like streams and jumps are super-important, but you're ready to start asking about them and getting maps to help ease you in.

And lastly but most importantly, have fun. I'm telling you all this with the idea that you're going to be serious about improving and advancing in this game for the foreseeable future, and thus am trying to help you lay as strong a foundation as possible. But don't let that get in the way of you enjoying yourself. If you find, say, ~2.4* maps boring, play harder or easier ones, whichever seems more interesting. If you find yourself tiring of 2*'s in general, you can certainly try to play 3*'s (though I can't promise you'll do well). If a mod seems interesting, by all means try it. Play More and Pls Enjoy Game are basically meme phrases at this point, but they're still relevant to newcomers.

(As a small sidenote, I will always be an advocate for going for SS ranks over anything else because imo that's what you're supposed to shoot for in the first place. However, I know I'm in a minority there and that can still be rather stressful. Even so, attempting to SS 1* maps while you play 2* maps to S-rank or get high acc can still be rewarding and can still help you with aim and honing your accuracy due to the lack of note density and thus the ability to concentrate more on hitting each note when you need to.)

Bruh you only have 6 hours in game. Playing 12 minutes a day wont help you at all for getting better.Play 1 hour everyday to be consistent and focus on your accuracy.

You should've thoroughly researched online on what tablets are good for osu. I've tried the star G640 and I can say that the tablet sucked so much. Of course if you're playing maps that are below 4 stars it's fine but once you get to maps 5 stars and above you start to find out how trash that tablet is.

The hardware smoothening is unbearable (hardware smoothening is when the tablet smoothens your fast movements which make it hard to hit fast or high spaced jumps). And there's also a delay on when you move the pen and when the cursor moves and actually registers on screen.

That tablet didn't have osu players in mind, it's a tablet made for graphic designers and artists. If you have spare cash on you, get a tablet that's actually good for osu.

Here's a link on a review to some of the most recommended ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCN2AkcLLkQ&t=226s

Edit: I forgot to say but there's 2 versions of the G640 there's a rev a and a rev b so if you got the rev A lucky you, you just got a really good tablet. But if you got a rev b then it would be recommended to change tablet cuz the rev b just sucks for osu.

Any research online will tell you that the g640 is a good tablet for osu if you get rev a lol. worst case scenario i believe you can just exchange a rev b with xp pen for rev a

Yeah. Funny thing. I was watching videos about that last night and I didn't realize that the Star G640 had two versions. Apparently you have to buy the tablet specifically from the XP-Pen site and request the A version. I don't know how to check which version I have. Considering I got it from Amazon, I probably got the B-version though.

On the contrary, I'm just trying to get use to using a tablet. So, for starting out, it will be fine until I get to tougher maps. Then I can look into getting another one. Might just recycle this one and use it for digital art considering that's something I'm interested in getting back into.

Thanks for the input.

I play more than 12 minutes a day. Lol. I will say I don't necessarily play every day though. I thought I honestly had more hours than that (like ten at least). It doesn't make a difference though. You're definitely right about me needing to play more if I really want to improve.

I will definitely take your advice on focusing on 2* maps. I probably and pushing myself a bit too far too fast considering my current experience with the game.

Whether you're super-eager to be a great like the top players, or just super-eager to get to the "fun" stuff (whatever that means to you), you don't jump head-first into the deep end before you know how to swim, much less just treading water. To bring the analogy to Osu, you don't jump into 3*'s or 4*'s without getting the basics of playing the game down. So yes, please do stick to 2*'s at least for about a month or two (a good day or so of play time), and then check how you feel you're doing; or just make a new thread here to get some third-party assessments again.
