ayo, i'm having some trouble finding some interesting maps, one of my friends has a bunch of really cool maps from like 2012 or before with <3000 scores and it just makes me wonder, how does one find maps like these?

Hello there, you could use the beatmap search filter in the Beatmap Listing! (and in-game)
To filter beatmap search by date, you could type "ranked<(year)", in this case, because you wanted to search beatmaps before 2012, you could type "ranked<2012".
