Does dragging damage the tablet?

I bought a tablet 3 days ago. It's Wacom CTL-472.

My question is this: I prefer dragging the pen on the tablet. I don't drag hard, I just touch the tablet with the tip of the pen. Does the tablet get damaged by doing this?

I notice some "scratches" on it's surface but I can't feel them whenever I drag my finger across the tablet's surface.

I also noticed today that whenever I drag my finger on a part of the tablet's surface it makes a high pitched sound, as if the surface is smoother at that part.

Is it something serious? Will it get to a point where the tablet doesn't even work? xd
Can I get away with not using a tablet cover, or is it necessary to have one if I want to keep playing like this long-term?

(Sorry if this has been asked before, I can't find any similar threads tho)

Dragging with smoothen out the area that you drag on, for my specific tablet the ctl-4100 it hasn't damaged it and I've been dragging for 3-4 years.
If you dislike the scratches or the inevitable smoother surface you'll get from dragging in a certain spot you should probably hover.

Buy a couver or the surface of your tablet will soon consist of potholes.

You can get good couver from Foxbox.

Sry for bad english.
