New player, playing casually. I guess I abused the reset button on several maps. Anyway, was talking with a friend and he said something about farming or jump maps being easier to find and how it might be bad. I'm curious, what are these maps, and is there a reason for them to bad? Oh, feel free to offer map recommendations too, I'm not really sure what to look for in a beatmap.

Its not really bad to play farm maps, it may stunt your improvement and there is a bad stigma around "farmers" generally. but they are just easy overinflated jump maps made for the purpose to gain a lot of pp.

Farm maps are maps that exploit the pp system for players to get a high amount of pp with the least effort. This mainly consists of short songs, only one hardest part with just jumps, high OD a.k.a everything to boost the amount of pp.

Jump maps are maps focusing on jumps, obviously. They mainly have 1/2 rhythm and with the high-spacing jumps. Those maps are made for aim aspects.

Stream maps are maps focusing on streams, especially deathstreams (32 notes or higher). Stamina aspect is more inclined in those.

Tech maps are a very poor term made by players to point out maps with visually pleased aesthetic and/or hard to play. I really wish ppl just drop this term completely as there is no concrete definition about this.

Maps with complex rhythms and patterns, maps that are difficult to read, etc. would fall under the tech map category
