Pen grip help (while hovering, pen tip touches the tablet during jumps)

Hello,

I'm not a very active OSU! user but I play sometimes and the thing that always annoys me (why I mainly don't play that much) is my grip style. I use normal tripod grip and hovering over tablet, but it seems like every time I do jumps, the tip of my pen touches the tablet itself, which just obviously makes it uncomfortable. Ofc when I look at tablet and try to hover pen, I can do it without touching, but if I start playing then during big jumps it just touches the tablet (mby that's why I suck at jumping...)

I use Wacom Bamboo CTL-470, but I put it vertically and have Rotation 90 degrees since I like to lay my wrist onto tablet itself (if tablet stays horizontally, then it would be on the edge of tablet which will not be too comfortable).

Despite me not being an active osu player, I still want to feel comfortable when I play it, so any advice how I could try and fix that issue? Maybe should start dragging instead if it's unavoidable, but I tried few times already and it doesn't seem to fit me much :/

Thanks everyone in advance!

from what I've seen, hover players tend to have a very vertical pen grip. Like these.

The way you described holding your pen at a 90 degree angle seems like it would be really hard to keep your pen at a constant height. That's why I believe most people with a 90 degree pen grip drag.
May I ask why you're trying so hard to not drag? It kind of seems like you're resisting what your hand naturally wants to do.

Also have you considered using your tablet rotated 90 degrees to make sure you hand/wrist rests on the tablet surface like you said you prefer?

You could also put your tablet area at the bottom right corner of the tablet so your hand rests on your desk and doesn't really interfere with the edge of the tablet. which is what I do.

Ah, no I don't put my hand on 90 degree angle, I said that my tabled is put vertically rather than horizontally like on all pics you sent and my Tablet Area is rotated 90 degrees (see my imgur link (dunno why I couldn't to igm /img to it :c))
I basically hold it like on first picture, but mi fingers are closer to tip a little bit and wrist is laying down on tablet mostly: https://imgur.com/a/qDeQ7IR (should've include that in main post, my bad, just rushed it kinda). Might as well try the 1st style, but I remember already using it when I first got tablet and I switched a little bit because I felt like I was either struggling with right side jumps or left side jumps (depending on when to put my hand) :D

Ahhhh the koifishu grip haha! I guess the only thing I can really tell you is you should probably start dragging, or change your pen grip. the former would probably be an easier adjustment. But I was actually going to say before I read your entire reply that the grip you're describing would probably be hard to get horizontal jumps with like you said.
Maybe experiment with holding the pen like that top photo I showed. I understand that sometimes you just have to do what feels natural though.

I don't know if this helps at all but I have the video handy so might as well share. This is the grip I settled on after experimenting with many different grips and hovering vs dragging.

KoiFishu, huh, does he also drag? Might try dragging then also or hovering with just normal grip like on 1st pic or in your video (although it seems you're dragging). Always questioned if it making jumps slower? And also I feel like my tablet area is bigger for that kind of style also, so will need experimenting. I lack of aim and control so that's why small area for me might be too cruel, even though I remember when I started with tablet, I had a small area at first, I wonder what happened...

Yeah he does drag. it actually looks like he doesn't use that grip anymore, but up until recently he used this grip for years. Probably 5 years or so.

Also yeah I'm dragging in my video. I tried hovering for a while but it made my aim really unstable and hard to precisely stop on circles without overshooting.

I see, maybe dragging is the way, huh... since I think my aim is also not as stable as I want it to be :/
