just wondering if it helps with anything, and if so, what are the benefits

144hz updates the screen 84 more times per second than a 60hz monitor does. as a result animations appear smoother. some fast moving objects may suffer from ghosting as a result of a higher refresh rate.

Additionally, youll only see benefit from 144hz if youre getting at least a steady framerate of 144fps.

would i recommend it strictly for osu? no, it wont do much.

would i recommend it overall? in a heartbeat, 144hz monitors are very nice and tend to be pretty good when paired with rhythm games.

my personal experience is that you never wanna go back to 60hz after you have a 144hz for like a month, it feels like you are playing with 10 frames. when you have friends playing with a 144hz, ask them to test it.

if not, here is a video from linus tech tips testing hz monitors on a pro, streamer and a casual https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX31kZbAXsA

let me fix that for you:

144 Hz / 60 Hz = 2.4

144 Hz is 2.4 more times faster than 60 Hz

I have 2 monitors, one is 240hz, the other is 60, after I played so much with 240, when I switch to 60 it's like the game is an old picture movie at 10fps :)) I can't even play at 60, it's a big difference after your eyes get used to it. And if you are playing 5-6+ * maps, you will feel the difference in a big way , i think the biggest difference that can make is at reading maps and accuracy .

I think he meant that it refreshes 84 actual times per second more and not "times" as in a math way.

To OP: if you play shooters and you take it seriously, get 144Hz. If you don't, get to a friend's house if possible and try 144hz there. After having 144hz once, you don't want to go back tho, trust me.

that depends on how much you value your performance on osu and how much you value your money. it will help you, and you'll probably notice improvements right away, but 144hz monitors are expensive.

at least someone here has common sense...

Other game modes like mania would probably benefit 144hz more, due to the scrolling nature of the notes. If you're buying a 144hz monitor solely for osu it probably wouldn't be best value, but its your money so do whatever you want, you'll still notice a certain performance increase.

make sure the response time is as low as possible
I would personally go for 1ms

Overclocking your monitor has no risks but losing some lifetime so def not worth paying for a new 144hz. With overclocking you can probably except to push to somewhere around 75hz which in my opinion is much better than 60 but its better than paying a few hundred dollars for a new monitor

Pricing probably varies by location, but the VG248QE got down to ~$100 USD before it was discontinued. Ebay currently has multiple listings of that monitor in the $70 to $80 range.

144hz TN panels aren't that expensive in 2020.

If pricing isn't an issue and you have the money for it then jumping from 60/75hz to 144 is a great choice

If you get a 144 hz monitor then it WILL make you better. But only in your reaction time and accuracy. A 60 hz monitor is fine for everything in the game. I think the only reason to get a 144 hz monitor or higher would be if you are playing higher approach rates
