I'm just curious about this because I'm not sure if I should download any maps from the ranked section.

as long as your downloading beatmaps (ranked or unranked) from the official site (osu.ppy.sh) you shouldnt have to worry about that.

dont download from shoddy websites freind and i feel like you watched a video that i did a while ago its just it wasnt osu that gave you viruses it was the places you download from...

You can not get virus through osu! maps (.osz extension)

If you have paranoia, download only ranked cards from osu! site

Osu! beatmaps from the official site shouldn't contain any malicious files. Don't download anything else that are outside the site.
