[invalid] [Proposal - Metadata] Formalise "x" as the Standardisation method for unofficial mashups

Back again with another Metadata proposal, this one is pretty simple so I won't get too deep into it.

This is already semi-officially done and has been for years, so I wanted to formalise it.

Basically, if someone creates an unofficial mashup not accredited to someone (not fading one song into another) then it should use x as a marker for it in both fields.

Unofficial mashups without credit of songs must add a "x" including a leading and trailing space between the separate artists and titles of the songs that have been mixed.

Thanks for your time!

vs. seems to be more commonly used for this kind of maps, so i'd rather standarise the marker to that
lewski
agree with saltylucario that "vs." seems to be common, but I have no idea if it's more common than "x", although I don't think that really matters

the two markers have significantly different connotations, though: x implies a complementary mashup, while vs implies that the songs are pitted against each other. as such, I don't think there's any point in forcing people to use one or the other, it's better to allow this bit of creative liberty on the part of the one creating the mashup. vs and x aren't the only options, either.

I don’t see the benefit of codifying this, mainly because of the factors stated in lewski’s comment and because I don’t think there’s any substantial benefit to be gained from complete consistency in the formatting of every mashup, as long as the title makes it clear what it is

Feels unnecessary and goes against the spirit of
If the creator of the beatmap has remixed or covered the song, they are free to name it appropriately to signal that this song is a special version. In this case the original songs should still be clearly indicated in the title or tags in order for players to be able to search for the original songs.
a lot. There's also the issue of forcing a certain formatting can lead to many cases where the map song title is too long, instead of the creator of the mashup having the freedom to name it however is fitting for the mix, whether they did it for osu or somewhere else on the Internet. Then you'll just end up shortening it again and having to worry what part is or isn't appropriate to remove. Seems like a lot of added things to consider instead of "name it how you like and make sure stuff is tagged"

E: plus there's the sometimes blurry area between mashup and remix and sampling, forcing a certain format for one of the categories would require defining it which since there's so much overlap can get super complicated

Two or more songs can be mashed up in different way depending on who makes the mashup. Therefore, this standardisation proposal can fail to distinguish who makes the mashup when that happens.

Besides, we have this technical guideline to properly tag the original song titles and artists for mashups (which is subset of remix):
In the case of compilations or remixes, the original song title(s) and artist(s) should be included in tags. This is to ensure that players can find all beatmaps of one song by searching the same thing without getting vastly different results.

As you propose this for "unofficial" mashups, there are so many amount of unofficial mashups, and I believe it's easier to find these compared to "official" mashup. So, this standardisation will very likely to hit majority of mashups ever existed, and completely disregard the remix artist's creative subject of naming their mashup track whichever they like.
