How long does it take to reach 3, 4, 5. and 6 stars?

REACHING a certain star isn't the hard part, you can play a short 6* map and theoretically reach 6 star, the hard part is actually FCing, as the for average time I have no clue but my personal time it took the reach certain stars is (I don't have the in-game hours so I'll just use plays and around the same months and years)
PASSING:
3* - around 2 months of playing (932 plays)
4* - around 4 months of playing (1837 plays)
5* - around 6 months of playing (4512 plays)
6* - around a year playing (14399 plays)

FCING:
3* - around 4 months of playing (1837 plays)
4* - around 5 months of playing (3227 plays)
5* - around 1 year and 2 months of playing (17,797 plays)
6* - around 2 years and 3 months of playing (39282 plays)

As you can tell I was stuck at FCing 5*s for over a year, but we should all notice the trend, I got better the more I played, and the higher the star the more I had to play to get there.

It should also be mentioned I'm a fairly slow improving player.

I got 2/3 Days playtime and 4.000 play count and i can Fc some 4 star maps And got on most 4 star maps above 90% ACC.

3*: like 12 days of playing (374 plays), Fc'd after 2 months of playing
4*: about 1 month of playing (1000 plays), Fc'd after 5 months of playing
5*: 3 months after playing (2500 plays), Fc'd after 6 months of playing
6*: 6 months after playing (10000 plays), Fc'd after 9 months of playing
7*: 9 months after playing (25000 plays), no Fc
8*: 11 months after playing (28000 plays) its Hidamari no Uta though so it doesn't really count.

About after 4 stars, I'd say the game starts to pick up the pace a lot. Do whatever you do to have fun and then you will improve.

Being able to pass consistently
1*-1st day
2*-2nd day
3*-6th day

5*-2 months
6*-4 months
7*-10 months
8*-I cant

Being able to Fc somewhat consistently:

It depends on you tbh

I started playing osu at like august the 1st and kept on playing for 5 months straight and here's the results

Passes

3* = 10/8 > after i got back to osu 5 months later
4* = 29/8
5* = 29/8
6* = 23/9
7* = 06/11
8* = not yet..

FC

3* = 31/8
4* = 31/8
5* = 24/9
6* = 23/12
7* = i wish xd...

i can't be bothered to put my play count but overall it's 38236

I think most people reach 5* when they have about 200 - 300 hours

That's an old habit from back in the time when i was mostly playing marathons.
After setting some top plays with those mods by accident, i choose to always play with these.

Really depends on your skill, but for me it was

3* pass - 9 days
4* pass - 19 days
5* pass - 1 month 8 days
6* pass - 2 months 21 days
7* pass - a little under 4 months
8* pass - hopefully soon

3* FC - 24 days
4* FC - 67 days
5* FC - 57 days
6* FC - 183 days if you count touchscreen, and 257 days if you don't.
7* FC - I wish ;)

For me it was (passes):

3*: 11/2/2019 (the day I joined osu)
4*: 12/2/2019
5*: 1/3/2019
6*: 11/6/2019
7*: 9/6/2019 (yes you read that right I passed airman before my first 6* pass)
8*: 7/2/2020

Obviously this isn't be the average but thought I'd chime in

Hmm, it took me about 18 hrs of play time to stop getting C's at 3 stars and ascend at 4 star, im still not at 5 star, but it would probably take me 1 day and 18 hrs to ascend to 5 star (currently at 1 day and 12 hrs play time)

depends on the person and stuff in your life and motivation 'n such.

for me it took (in hours played) 14 hours. It's still not the best for me, but i can gets A's and B's

for 4 star, i haven't made it yet but maybe 1 day- 1 day 3 hours play time

for all the others 2 days 13 hours - 3 days 08 hours

  1. ~70 hrs, 1000pp - FC high 3 star, pass low 4 star
  2. 120 hrs, 1500pp - FC low 4 star, pass mid 4 star
  3. 150 hrs, 2000pp - FC low 4 star, pass some low 5 stars
  4. 220 hrs, 2500pp - FC high 4 star, pass low 5 stars
  5. 320 hrs, 3000pp - FC low 5 star, pass high 5 stars
  6. 410 hrs, 3750pp - FC mid 5 star, pass low 6 stars
I estimate it will be around 500 hours before I can FC 6 stars.

like a lot of other people said, its different for everyone

if you want an approximation, i can pass up to cheese 9* and fc up to 7.6*ish by 350hours (4 years after starting)

it really depends on how much effort you put into the game, i quit for a year so it took me a while to get back my skill

Probably because I play maps like freedom dive because I find streams satisfying so I keep retrying them and I used to retry spam back when I was like a 7 digit

I finished my first 3 star (raise my sword 3.13) in my first hour of playtime. I have recently finished (raise my sword 4.67) at 8 hours of playtime and has just started trying 5 stars.

Well these are hjow long it took me to pass and fc those

first 4 star pass - was arnd 24 days after my first 3 star pass
first 5 star pass - 2 days after
first 6 star pass - 22 days after
first 7 star pass - 28 days after


first 2 star fc - 3 april
first 1 star fc - a day after
first 4 star fc - 12 days later
first 3 star fc - 1 day later
first 5 star fc - 23 days later
first 6 star fc - 29 days later

(yes all of these are in chronological order)

and i dont actually remember the amt of plays i had during those Fcs and passes

so it took me around 13 days from first time playing to fc a 4 star,
35 days from first time playing to fc a 5 star,
and 64 days from first time playing to fc a 6 star.

I think it really differs from one person to another. For me, I literally started playing osu 35 days ago (didn't start with zero knowledge tho, already knew the game basic BUT without knowing any terms at all like burst stream etc) and now I can already FC some 4.0 - 4.5* 2+ 3+ minute long maps with 97++ acc, which I think is quite a fast progress (I got accused of smurfing twice today). But I really suck at jump farm maps, whereas there are many people who are the opposite of me; good at farm maps but bad at long maps. So I guess it really depends on the person, and how much you put your time on the game everyday (consistency).

I try to increase my star level by 1 every month

started playing, did 1* and 2*, got lucky and did 3*
started playing again in may and suddenly able to play 3* and fcs it
next month got my first 4* play
last month got my first 4* fc
this month did a high 5*

i hope this continues

Depends on your skill and talent, I reached 6* on about a 100 hours and I have some friends that did the same. Though, I don't think you should compare yourself to average playtimes on reaching certain star ratings cuz that's just gonna hurt your confidence. Just play and improve at your own rate.

(i love necroing) im not sure how i improved so quickly. maybe because i just trained aim 90% of the time

I started in 2016, took a 5-year break, came back in January/February, and I had my first 5* pass within the last week. DUnno how that compares, but I guess by Wintertime I should have a 6* pass...???

(as a completely unrelated aside, I'm kinda saddened by how my top plays are getting inundated with HRHDDT plays. They're all 1*'s unadjusted for HR+DT, FFS.)

This thread is pretty much dead, but I am almost at a 5.6* pass with 17h playtime and 1468 playcount. I haven't gotten it yet, but I am getting very close.

Relax mate, playing higher star will not benefit (unless you are going for fun). You can't pass 5star not even 4star because mostly map I can see in your profile is some 40seconds to 100secondw map

I doubt that you can actually pass a real 5*. and as manish has said, rushing higher stars will not benefit you, in fact it can lead to developing bad habits that will affect your ability to fc maps.

If the thread is pretty much dead, why the fuck did you necro it instead of making your own post?

Also, what Manish and AWW said. Unless said 5* is just as short as the ones in your profile, you kinda aren't really passing a 5* (in the sense that it's a good 5* pass, not that you objectively did it). Stop playing so many short songs and get some longer (at least 2 minutes or longer) maps in your top plays, and start playing far easier stuff (without mods) than what you've got right now. I'd suggest about 1.5-1.7* at first, and shoot for at least 95% accuracy on any map you play in that range.

good job, just don't play with too many mods, it doesn't really help on 2* maps

Play songs you like that are just a bit uncomfortable and probably play songs above 2 minutes unless you are farming for rank. It took me roughly 7 months of playing or so to pass 6 stars and I still struggle to fc 5 stars. Though try not to compare yourself to others it just ruins your time playing.

for me i only have 104 hours of playing and i can pass some 6*, 5* decently and 4* with atleast an A and i climbed up to rank 810,170 in that amount of time if that helps

I can FC 6*'s but not 7*'s and I've been playing about a thousand hours. That said, I got my first 6* FC probably 500-600 hours in and I definitely could have done it faster if I was properly focused on improving.

so what tips would you advise for other slow improving players to improve at the game besides play more.

I can pass 5* maps in 1 month. I playing too much. I've 3,640 play count in that month. but I can't pass A accuracy in 3* above. total play time 2d 17h 24m

Only playing for passes as a 7 digit isn't the most optimal way to improve

I remember I used to have trouble passing 4* until some dude hmu on chat and dumped me some jump maps. Took me about 5 months? started passing 5* after 10 months? and comfortably pass 6* at the start of this year.
