Just before the blade touched Ryougen's chest, a dimensional rift opened. A spirit has taken physical form and peeked out of the portal, quickly performing a shirihadori on the blade, stopping the blade from even reaching Ryougen's skin.
The spirit pulled Ryougen over to a secluded portion of the spirit world. The spirit took off the brown hood that it was wearing...
Ryougen shouted at the spirit, disturbed from his intentions of dying. But this spirit was one you really shouldn't be discussing death with...
She threw the sword away into the surface world, disarming Ryougen. Ryougen was still crippled from his mixed emotions.
It was the goddess of death herself, the one that attempted to burn this entire world. She broke her promise of not messing around with the surface world, but this time her plan only involved individuals instead of the entire world.
Here lies the spoilers to the main storyLike before, she still wanted to die. She still wanted to escape the duty given to her. No matter how many times she tried, she cannot kill herself. She tried to destroy the world so that she can finally sleep, but that didn't work either. Now she attempted something else: she wanted a replacement.
Dragging over the 3 Mai siblings over to the spirit world, she fully explains everything about her plan, and a bit of her background also becomes revealed. Binding the 3 siblings to calm down and listen to what she has to say, she couldn't keep her tears from falling out as she explains the full situation that she is in at the moment.
To cut it short, she still longs for her freedom. She no longer wanted to be the messenger of dying souls. To review, her first attempt to escape from this was to take up the second half of Senpuu's body, completely putting Sakura's soul to sleep as the goddess used her body to hopefully feel new life. Seeing as this didn't still make her any different, she then attempted to gather energies from generations farther from her, letting her bloodline of mystics be knocked out to fill as sacrifice to power her world destroying machine. The machine self-destructed and her soul went back to the spirit world, leaving her back at her position before everything happened. She tried to tolerate this as she saw the prosperity of hope upon the world, but eventually she lost grip of her control, too.
Seeing as how her biggest schemes have failed, she tried a more tricky scheme. She would force a replacement to come take her place, so that she can finally rest in the peaceful side of the spirit world, giving her less reasons to keep breaking the portal to the surface world. But her replacement would have to be one with immense power, one that has enough mystic power to be able to communicate freely with souls.
This then sprouted with the idea of putting together two of the more powerful mystics on the surface world, Sakura Mai and Ryougen Mai, to conceive a child that will inherit a mixture of powers both from the surface world and the spirit world. She would take advantage of Senpuu's motherly nature in that she'll raise the child even if she doesn't know the other half of the child. Alongside this, the goddess will manipulate the child's fate to eventually end up as the next god/dess of death.
But since creation of the child with those parents seem to be impossible, she broke into the surface world again, approaching a sleeping Yuki, forcibly making her change into Sakura, then possess the soul of Sakura from there. The goddess again had control over Senpuu's body. She targetted this specific date when Ryougen's post-puberty instincts were active, and used the darkness of the rooms to completely deceive the entire house, seducing Ryougen into making a child with Senpuu's body. After she successfully went with her plan, making Ryougen think that it was all a dream, she placed Senpuu's body back in the position she found her in, and left for the spirit world. All she then had to do was wait for everything to unfold.
But then, even the goddess of death herself has humane instincts. Being normal again is what she sought for after all, and seeing Ryougen's actions, she just couldn't hold herself anymore. She knows she committed one of the largest sins just to satisfy her desire for freedom. Plus, in truth, she has developed special feelings for the man that woke her up to sanity ever since that incident ended years ago.
Confessing everything, she uses her power to kill off all traces of the child inside Senpuu's body. She also then wipes the surface world people's memories about the inquiries of Senpuu's pregnancy. The last step would be to wipe the Mai siblings' memories about this event. She then uses an immense power to manipulate the worlds to her bidding, as these 2 dimensions were taken into a slumber that no one knew happened.
Ryougen, Senpuu, and Tenyou found themselves awake back in their house. Feeling still a bit uncomfortable, they all gather in the common room in their house. Rezo pops in to say that he knows about the whole thing, and what the goddess attempted to do. Frankly, the goddess was successful in wiping the memories of other people, but the Mai siblings and Rezo's memories are unwipable... Rezo couldn't be wiped because the goddess doesn't have access to his fate. The Mai sibings, however, couldn't be wiped of their memory of the child because the memories in their heads are memoris of the goddess and not of theirs, which the goddess couldn't manipulate...
This event now becomes a heavy burdened secret that Senpuu and Ryougen hold, while Tenyou will also have troubles trying to forget of this moment as well...
I could go with your designs and actually draw it out or something (with a few modifications of my own). Is this going to be a BG? IMO, I think a lighter, more party-like background would suit the mood better. *with Shimedore still in darkness in the back of course*. You know, Taberuna eats all the cake and party food, Yokuderu and Tenjiku sings/dances, Kita serving beer, that sort of stuff.
