IMO it would be good to know already what people like and dislike, even if it's tough what to choose (as e.g. I had 1 vote left and about 10 beatmaps to decide)

I voted for only 2 maps; Primal Dialga and Ztrout, the former because it's <3 and the other because it was entertaining to me and the only other map that I can actually remember. I can remember the songs, sure, but not the map themselves. Ztrout was creative in a very weird sort of way that is hard to explain because it's both creative and not creative at the exact same time.

I could've voted for my own maps but decided not to be a douche (the only map of mine that would've stood a ghost of a chance isn't ranked yet, anyways).

Yes, it matters, rhytmycal songs usually suit awesome maps, but in the end you judge the map. If the song is totally boring then the map shall be and you should judge that, not the boring song. Still, why are you we even discussing this? You won't vote on ztrout, me neither, others will and that's all :/

I'm considered one of the worst mappers of 2010. I map K-On! and Vocaloid :D. A map's success is not so much brought upon the song, but rather how the mapper maps it. I do understand that there ARE factors that can only be brought by how the composer composed the song, and how well the singer does, but the main thing is how someone maps.

My Hatsune Miku map was considred one of the best Miku songs to ever exist. I have random streams, cockblock 0.5x sliders, and loljumps. Some people would probably vote it as the best map of 2010 just because of the song, but it's truly not that good of a map.

bloomin' octagon was considered one of my most fun maps. It's YTP, so people are like "ong EEEE." Some people may still like it, though, due to the difficulty without inserted BS, such as Stargazer. The fitting effects I did hitsounding-wise and properly using 1/8s made the map much more enjoyble. In Stargazer, I misued 0.5 sliders, and it was D:.

If you're only looking at songs, then this becomes the music choice awards, rather than the Best Osu Maps of 2010 :D.

one can never separate the song from the beatmap... of course I'll enjoy a good beatmap more if i like the song a lot... and i will have a hard time enjoying an awesme beatmap with a song that gives my ears cancer...( tha mean basically that i won't vote for the proctologist :P)

Erm, yes one can. Admittedly, I will usually enjoy a map more if it's set to, say, English rock/altpop rather than, say, Vocaloid, but that doesn't stop certain Vocaloid maps from being fucking awesome, and some English rock maps being terrible, naming no names. Perhaps this is just me and I'm crazy, but meh.

That's nothing new; the favorites, plays, and even ratings follow this trend. At least from what I've seen. People aren't going to download every single map and see how good of a map it is; they're going to download songs they like, then see if the maps are good. This naturally causes a bias toward songs (and occasionally mappers) that people are familiar with.

And I admit I'm fully guilty of this.

Probably, but I don't know why the 'Last edited by' isn't appearing below his post either.

Doesn't show for BAT edits unless they write a comment in the "Reason for editing post" field (try it in the MAT forums).

You guys are right. I had to first get the list from echo/peppy. When i got it i was in the middle of something. Then i was tired. Now i'm awake. Working on it now.
