WHATS UP?
**SIGHHH**
that big bug in the setup folder rendering the whole skin unusable for standard defenition has been removed.
also fixed up the lifebar background for SD users while i was at it.

The prefs folder isnt converted to SD yet though, will do once new elements come into there.


also,

Looking for suggestions on what to do for:
- mania hitbursts, because the one being used right now is very good with readability but its not original cuz its from VOEZ skin.
- Any more prefs ideas?

to do prefs:
mania judgement laser off
catch judgement laser off
'pattern' hitcircle colour
choice of reverse arrows
edit 'unranked' sprite when displayed on the side of the screen
anymore i missed?

and i cant really make ratios unless i have a monitor with that ratio, sorry...

*Just realised, the 21:9 ratio should work well. the elements dont really need vertical alignment, only alignment on the horizontal side. Try this and tell me how it goes...

Will Nightgate be ready to be finalized? Considering that (in my opinion) it is an art skin, I'm gonna have to use my own hitsound set and use Audacity for loads of fade outs for these interface sounds.

To be honest, clear out your entire todo list and then we can go.

EDIT1: Maybe more cursors? That dotted trail is distracting me, I'd rather have a solid long trail or no trail at all.

Orangedox has updated their services.

New UI, more features, and less free link shares. RIP.
I'll need to switch to a different service, which might take some time. I'm also working on alot right now which means more time.

aaand again, Setup and some preferences are borken... RIP

It bothered me all the time, I think the main color of the skin shouldn't be a combo color as well

More Requests:

Cursors: no trail, no expanding glow <-- I just did that and wow, it removed a lot of "weight" for me... so phycological
and what about short trails?

Cursor smoke: smooth line, dark[?], small/med/big

Scorebar with a playfield box/lines* <-- this might be pretty hard for 21:9

More Slider Follow Circles... other than that glow, also color ring, white ring, none, small/med/big**, transparent?
Follow Points maybe?
Slider balls... filled to the borders, white ring, color ring

Geez, remove these shadows >_< I know this is a nice gimmick, but I can't read old-style stacks (Scatman)

Dark score numbers... weird one, I know

Just looked at Taiko, some elements aren't properly scaled
same with mania, but lightingN only

*The way you do that - make a 128x128 pure white square hitcircle, go to editor and put 4 of them to all corners on the same timestamp. Then let AT play and make a screenshot before AT hits them. Open that screenshot in the image editor and you can make a border outside of them but crop out 10px from top of the box you're going to make. Hope this helped lol

** Take a look at Rafis' and Piggey's skin, their follow circs are ending very close to the slider bodies, removing clutter from the playfield. Keep in mind, they are mostly speed players.

I've checked it, and it seems fine (apart for some MACOSX tagging files, which shouldnt affect anythyng.)

I'll take these options into consideration (most likley makeing them if i'm not feeling lazy for those harder ones)

and sure, I usually have my IRC client on so just ping me there.

Really good skin.
There's a few things you could improve :
- When releasing, remove the .DS_store files by editing the .osk with a Zip application. They are just useless.
- add 4:3 plz
- Mania lightings are really distracting. I would reduce the opacity to ~25%.

You can, as I said use something like 7zip or any equivalent for Mac AFTER making the osk and you should be able to see them and delete them.

a realy nice skin

its the best skin i have seen so far the only thng i dont like about it is the menu select sound.

(i hope that the other colors are geting editet soon becorse i like yellow more than green)

p.s. my englisch is not realy that good so im sorry about that

Dropbox was overloaded with downloads so my account got banned for the day. I didnt even know they had a 20GB/day bandwidth... sigh... working with no budget..

It should be back up now, i just checked. But maybe by the time you read this it might be banned again so its just a waiting matter...



Those of you who did read the thread, and the error screen, thanks. You guys should do a little research on your own ;) its a help!



.DSstore files host OSX's extra file browser features (i think) and i cant see them even if zipped/unzipped. Apart from being annoying to see they shouldnt do much as they are less than one byte pretty much and don't muckup osu.

No weird downloading hassles (mega)
A clear [DOWNLOAD] button (Gdrive)
Easy uploading
The ability to make the link a direct download
and FREE

so i'll try to look for somthing that ticks most boxes. If not i'll use one of them (sigh)

(i didnt even know that dropbox had a download limit...)

Link fixed and now using the 'hightail' service

A hassle i found: the main download button downloads it as a zip file. Please hover over the actual file and press that button instead.

Seeing this, the service im using wont be hightail for long.

I don't really like the menu sounds , they're loud, I don't really like that. Maybe you could add some other menu sounds in the preference folder.

so, with macs we are locked to using stable fallback update stream because of dev purposes. You'll need something other than fallback to run this skin because skinning has changed since then. Have a look at t/56460/start=1365 at the end comments, the thread is super old but the later comments should help. Peppy's start isnt so useful.

I got my osu latest running on my mac from here.

you'll hafta ask somone who understands it more, i simply clicked a (probably outdated and removed) link to get my copy

I am not really the biggest fan of the cursor smoke in game. Maybe something a bit more lasery. Might work with some customization options for it. Could just be me though. Great skin though so far.

I noticed that with the dots as the "numbers" if the combo goes over 10 they end up as two dots in the circle.

Look in Frequently Asked Questions... in skin.ini type the width of the dot (not @2x) into HitCircleOverlap

This is a really nice idea, although I think the default preferences have way too much going on visually to be called a "pro skin" :P

But yeah, have some feedback^^

Removing the cursor trail currently doesn't work just by copying the files from "off" over... could the files have the wrong names? (Preferences -> UI - Cursor -> Cursor Trail -> Off)
The files are named "comboburst"... just replacing "cursortrail.png" with "empty" .pngs fixed the problem for me..

Also, I don't like the spinner too much.. even the "simple one" kind of has too much going on for me.. I'd like an even simpler, "just an outline" kind of spinner^^ (EDIT 2: After playing with it for a bit, I have to say you definitely get used to the simple one, so it's not that bad.. still, I'd like a simpler one :P)
Plus it would be nice to be able to change the Slider followcircle, as the default one has a lot of "glow"... turning it off makes it way easier to play imo^^ maybe a simple circle would also be good there..

There is a reason why there is a Preferences folder lol

none for cursor trail, I can confirm that,

The spinner is new style, try to look around in the files and blank out what you need
EDIT2: I see the issue, perhaps you can to remove that SPIN! text from the glow? Put a blank image and call it "spinner-background", this will force it to use old-style spinner

I also already mentioned a suggestion for more slider follow circs

interface sounds w/o echo are planned



EDIT1: While I'm here, gonna throw in 2 cents from me, when you disable centered accuracy, in the ranking screen, there are two "AC" texts. Definitely not intentional tbh

Well i think this is enough prefs for this skin XD (theres alot more than what you see in the list above)

i'm going to start to restrict / close any more option requests (if you can actually think of any more) because It'll take forever. Nearly 1 year in beta...


PLAN:

Release the next update as a proofread build, where bugs are ironed out. No new items will be added unless its a fix. i might re-set some defaulted elements too.

The update after this one is the final build, no more b##-#, we've hit v1!

After this I will work on the colours! -order based on stereotypical popularity.

also, i've planned the combo colour sequences:

These are sorted by 'colours that go well together but are different.'

e.g. red to blue is seizurous but red to pink looks nice.
Red to Orange however is too similar.

this makes gameplay flow nice but still ensures you know when a combo ends and starts.

its hard to see with the rest of the colours distracting you, so try cover them up and only look at one sequence at a time.



i've tried it and it works very well.

also these colours are not the actual prescise ones to be used. e.g. the purple is actually a lighter shade. just sayin...

Also, about combo colors, when ppl consider grabbing No Color hc, then let them quickly also change the colors into base ones in skin.ini... or they could just pure white... I guess

This problem has been mentioned already couple pages ago... macs are forced to be on Fallback version, there's some tutorial on how to get it to Stable, but it's not something you'd ask me

sorry for the wait, got a bit busy

I've decided to skip the rest of the sounds, and here:

also, a help file for mac users stuck on fallback osu was added. redirects to forum to get a latest build working, and a not-recommended additional hitcircle file to make it at least playable if too lazy to do so.

I'm having trouble finding other services.

puush - unstable uploads and really bad organisation
dropbox - download bandwidth limits
Gdrive - downlod bandwidth limits
mega - annoying download method
mediafire - ads and file preparation

hightail's UI isnt a direct download and there is a misleading 'download all' button that downloads it as a zip instead of osk. but is the best so far.
uncluttred, simple, organised.

Holy this skin is dope af man great work
One thing though, I noticed that the mania-hit (100-200-300) are still from your VOEZ skin and haven't been skinned to fit the theme. Are you going to skin those elements as well ?
Also I'm looking forward to other colors versions since green is not my cup of tea (still looks good though). Do you have a concrete date of releasing them ?

that big bug in the setup folder rendering the whole skin unusable for standard defenition has been removed.
also fixed up the lifebar background for SD users while i was at it.

For mania hitbursts, use your combo colors to color either DDR-like text or 320, 300, 200, 100, 50, MISS

i've tried that with hallfetica font

readability was horrible compared to voez since the colour changes too much, font is too small, and it dissappears too fast...

with the voez ones, the glow gives something special to readbility... when the white stays constant, but the glow changes colour it's somehow more visible to the human (or at least, my eye). maybe its because the whole stage is flat colour, while the score is glowing, which makes them differ and not distract. probs why but i dunno.

the two diamonds also provide an easier distinguish -ability between 300 and perfect, encouraging you to fill that diamond and get perfects, and also balances out for changing widths in the text.

im also quite busy currently so skinning might tightly be restricted to my weekends... sorry for the slow updates.

i'll now persue the colours, although my time is quite limited now..
unfortunatley, due to the complexity of this skin this would mean that any more bugs found would be locked in... so. yeh.

hows this gonna work..

I use a photoshop rule to recolour them and it worked quite well.
i managed to recolour all coloured elements in one go (~2mins) but some of them are a bit discoloured

my flow is
1. separate 'coloured' and 'not coloured' files into folders
2. batch colour the 'coloured' files using PS
3. touchup the discoloured elements (i have a list-in-the-making of these)
4. copy and merge them back together IN A SEPERATE folder for testing, to keep the backup
5. fix up any problems in the test

6. colour the options folder the same way



i could give you the dropbox where all skin assets are stored...

I would seperate the elements as well and batch recolour all elements that are a solid colour with the new colour, then do the ones with drop shadows and other black areas myself. But your workflow sounds much faster :P
