Is there a way to get rid of the fireworks or whatever it is when playing? I'm not sure if its the skin or osu but it keeps distracting me.

get a blank 1x1 .png and overwrite the star2.png in the skin folder
Where is HD version ?
The Widescreen Version (16:9/16:10 Resolutions) should be in HD.

This is a pro skin, the 300s doesn't show ingame because they are distracting in harder maps. You can enable it deleting hit300-0, hit300g-0 and hit300k-0 in the skin folderAltBridge wrote:
