Hi! My first post and beatmap in here.

So, this is a crazy piece of progressive rock from legendary Dream Theater.
All notes are placed by hand, because there is no constant bpm in this song.
The rythmics are also challenging: polyrythms and all kinds of weird tempo-changes.

This is pretty difficult but it is because of the weird rythms. I bet drummers and musicians will love this one ;)

I really wouldn't recommend progressive as a first beatmap. But since you've gone ahead and done it anyway, I'll take a good look at this.

Dream Theater are awesome.

I'm gonna say this: I think you're going at this the wrong way. Like awp said, Prog for the first map isn't a good idea. Rather than hand-placed beats, you really should add timing sections for each of the different tempos. Yes, it's going to take forever, but it'll flow better, I think.

This is why I'm not gonna tackle DT for awhile, except for maybe The Silent Man. I would do Space Dye Vest, but too much nothing.

hmm... I'm not sure about the different tempos, because I follow drum strikes a lot, and many of them are not played precisely on the tempo. And how about 4/5 polyrythmics and stuff... would take like million tempo changes. I still thing you can get same result by placing notes by hand. Take a look...

awp: Your todo-list includes some Blind Stare. That's just great, theyre my high-school classmates all except one and I know him too :)

You're shitting me.

Blind Stare is the greatest band I have ever heard! (Well, them and Ram-Zet. It's pretty close to a tie.) I've been waiting for something new after Symphony of Delusions for years.

Okay, so I tried it, couldn't figure what part of the song you were following, so I watched it in edit mode.

Seems like you're following the drums, but some of the notes seem off. Spacing is good at points, bad at others. You also seemed to repeat stuff a bit, I think I saw the same section 4 times.

It started to get worse around 1:30, and from what I saw, the beast spacing for the next bit looked absolutely cruel to anyone who hadn't heard the song before. The drums are rather quiet, and sometimes it sounds like you're following the guitar, making it really hard for people to get the beats right.

Then, Osu! crashed my computer and blue-screened me. >_> Not checking the rest of the song 'till someone else does it and doesn't crash.

Alright, built up the courage to finish the map, nothing bad happened.

Well, frankly, I think you need to re-time quite a few things, or at least make what you're timing it on more clear. Beat spacing as well. I think Good spacing is much more important in songs that are super complex, so we can know what part of it you're following.

Also, Only 3 minutes of it? Then cut out the rest of the song with an editing program. You don't need it if you aren't going to map it.

Sorry if any of this seems harsh, but it definitely needs some polishing. Don't be afraid to ask for people's help in timing! I'm not rhythmic enough to do it, but kind people are always lurking, ready to pounce on you from the metaphorical bushes of the internet and help out.

After dinner I'll take a good look at this. You should get a reply within an hour.

Hoo boy.

This song is pretty awesome. But I really don't think it's all that suitable for an Ouendan song unless you have the sheet music handy, because the tempo changes every 15 seconds and a lot of the notes are on awkward beats. Considering all the notes here are timed by hand, it sounds quite fitting when it is played in the editor. However, those who aren't familiar with the song will be shooting blanks. With a blindfold on. In the dark. With a toy gun that has a broken trigger.

My point is, the focus shifts around way too much in some sections. There are times where I can follow along perfectly, and there are other times where I just let go of everything completely and simply watch the show, because it's far too confusing to follow along to.

Your sense of spacing is pretty good for the most part though!

But if I were to recommend anything, I'd say this: tag this as editor practice. If you want to do a Dream Theater song, try doing one with a bit more of a confined structure, like As I Am. I'm not saying you can't go ahead on this one; it's just that it will murder you and anyone brave enough to try it, and it would take an immense amount of work to fine-tune something like this.

Yeah! I want to murder everyone... with this song. You need some challenge... I'll make this one perfect and youll love it ok? 8-)

Well done herzi!

I tried this one because I love Dream Theater. Everything was perfect in this beatmap. Easy to follow after a few attempts and enough challenging to keep me interested. I can't imagine a better way to turn this song into a beatmap. If any of you can't follow it, then go ahead and play some easy-leveled beatmaps. This is only for those who really can play this game =) More insane-leveled beatmaps like this and drunken tiger wanted 8-)

Keep up the good work! \o/

Uh huh.

Neither I or Awp said that, in the end, we couldn't beat it. We just said it needed improvements.

The point is, everyone who has commented on the song so far loves Dream Theater. Yes, we know the beat. Most likely, other people do not. It wouldn't be impossible, but it would be extraordinarily hard for someone who had never heard it before to catch what beats to follow, especially with the beat spacing the way it is.

Don't assume that just because we don't think it's polished doesn't mean we can't win.

I have an excuse! The only other message board I ever visit is GameFAQS! I'm so used to not having an edit button ; ;

And me? I'm used to a merge-post button =|

I couldn't play too much of this beatmap because the drain rate was a pain. XD

I think you should make it a bit easier with it. =P
