There shouldn't be any lack of interest in competing in the lower bracket. Only 1 player doesn't make it to the lower bracket, and the 2nd grand finalist is the winner of the lower bracket. That gives everyone another chance to come back and win the whole thing. Double elimination is simply far superior than single elimination. No one wants to be eliminated because of 1 bad game. If people hadn't dropped out and had actually cared enough to schedule their matches properly, we could've had a really nice set of lower bracket matches. Many competitions/sports/Esports that follow this double elimination standard have players/teams that win the whole competition from the lower bracket (some even from losing their first match).
That all said, double elimination (for no good reason) isn't working due to lack of interest as many have pointed out, which is truly unfortunate.
I wouldn't be surprised if future NATs forgo the lower bracket due to poor player mentality.
