I need to order a Japanese keyboard. Unfortunately all i could find on American sites was generic whitebox crap....

I want to import this https://store.logicool.co.jp/lcs/catalo ... id=2000261

How would i go about doing so?

Price is no object....

Contact a local importer maybe?
Neo@lex
There is not difference between the keyboards. Just get an American one and enable IME.

...In your situation, I would not recommend a Japanese keyboard. Why?

Because if you need to look at the shortcut keys on your keyboard frequently, then they aren't much of a shortcut, and it would be way easier for you to just use the IME and type in the romanji in which case it would convert to hiragana/katakana/kanji (space bar presses in that case). Importing Japanese stuff usually costs more than buying it locally, and I doubt this would be an exception.

As far as backlit keys go, there are plenty of American keyboards with them last time I checked. I would honestly just get one of those if you have *that* much trouble, but it would be far more beneficial for you to, uh, get some Ms. Beacon and learn to type properly *without* looking at the keyboard. :P

How about you spend your money on typing lessons? That's more valuable.

May as well just print the characters and tape them on the keys. Seriously, just IME dis shit. I can be given a blank keyboard and type fine in Latin characters as well as the Japanese IME.

Just learn where each Latin key is on the keyboard by typing a lot, a lot, a lot. Even if you have to do games or something. Play an FPS and only talk in text and use complete, grammatically correct sentences without getting typekilled. You will be docked points if you use shortcuts and acronyms like "u" rather than "you" and "tbh" rather than "to be honest." Also, within every forum post you make strive to make a too long; didn't read (remember, no acronyms) wall of text. Make it so nobody wants to read what you to have to say, but will anyways because you're detail oriented and you come off as literate. Also limit the amount of time you type large paragraphs. Strive to type 1000 words in at least 10 minutes and you should be good.

Another good way to learn how to type is write a 5000 word report at the end of each day summarizing the events of that day. Limit your time and punish yourself if you don't meet that time by making a 10000 word report on why you should type faster.

After you do this for a while you should be a typing speed demon and be able to pass professional typing games like "Typing of the Dead" in no time! You will have memorized each key and won't have to spend your money on useless shit like that keyboard because you already have a keyboard right in front of you! Just don't ever look at it when you type.

There's a (half-assed) PC version of TotD.

adam: how dare you call TTOTD useless shit unlike other games that game actually trains you in a practical skill

Lolginer: half-assed is a little redundant when it comes to TTOTD, don't you think

I learned to type via Mario Teaches Typing 2, and later Mavis Beacon. I highly recommend either, the latter because it's a damn good program, and the former because you get to print a certificate at the end of each section that says that you don't totally suck... even if you just edit the requirements in the options menu to require only 10 wpm to beat the game... not that I would know anything about that.

Wish I grew up on TOTD though, would have probably been more entertaining than Mario Teaches typing.

Hell, I used to always look at the keys, in my mandatory typing class I had to cheat and use two fingers. I never learned how to touch type (Or whatever they call it) , I've just typed so much that now I know where every key is.
Pokebis
Actually, I'm not sure how I actually learned to touch type. I never really took classes or anything and a keyboard always feels so natural now. I guess it's just the experience deal with playing games and typing so much; I know where all the keys are.

This.

I don't think I ever looked at the keyboard to type even while I was learning it. I don't even remember learning it either. It was just.. sort of there. I think of the words and they appear on the screen.

LIKE MAGIC.

I still find it funny when people are amazed with how I can type without looking at the keyboard, and I can do so faster than most people I know in my school.
Ivalset
I learned to type through fighting polar bears in the arctic.

Allocated my skill points, etc.

Even funnier but unrelated is, when you have dual monitors and your mouse goes from one to the other, people are just like HOLYSHIT WTF HOW!

In their head, they can't understand how something can pass between two completly different entities.
