Hi there! I absolutely love this game, I was addicted to it for a while and I truly enjoy playing it!

So... I decided to make my own beatmap! I submitted it and everything, but... now I'm lost. I looked around, read a few stickies, the FAQ, and etc., but maybe I missed something or I just need some pointers in the right direction.

1. So I submitted my beatmap, only one difficulty at the moment, and it's in this looooong stream of topics that apparently have 'priority stars'? >_> So my map will hardly get noticed, if at all, unless I speak about it?

2. I see stuff for 'modding'. Do inexperienced mapmakers ask more experienced to littlerally change their beatmap so it fits/looks/plays better, but keeps about the same scheme the original mapper had? I was wondering if I could just get tips and make it on my own better, since I have this thing were I'd like to do it myself? Or would it honestly be better to get it modded, if that's what modding is?

3. How does my beatmap get noticed, really? I would like some help, since obviously it's far from perfect.

So in short, I'd just like some pointers on getting my beatmap approved and ranked for others =D
And I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to post the link to my beatmap here, even if to just use an example or to show everyone, so I'm going to wait until someone asks for it >_>

it is a sad truth that sometimes in osu it is almost impossible to get your map looked at (as there are hundreds of mappers and very few modders)

Inexperienced mappers do ask experienced mappers to help them, but no they do not literally change the map for them. They post on the thread a list of "suggestions" (or mods) on how to improve your map.. not all of them have to be followed

There are a few ways to get your beatmap noticed (not all of them work all the time)
1. Post your link in #mod and ask if anyone could mod it for you
2. Mod other peoples maps, this gives you kudosu which you can then put towards your map (You need to have at least 8SP to have your map ranked) People can give you priority stars if they like the map which will raise your SP. The more SP your map has, the more likely it will get looked at,ranked.
3. Whisper bats...dont do this unless your map has 8+ SP
4. Ask in the many modding queues that have been appearing recently viewforum.php?f=60

Basically getting your map looked at is just a waiting game, ask around whenever you can (dont ask in #osu channel) and hope that people will take the time to look at it

good luck :)

1. The simple answer is yes. Very few people like to dig around the pending/help sections for beatmaps to mod. Maps gain priority stars from modders looking through the map and liking what they see. If you want information on how to give your map attention, read this guide: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=17043

2. Modding is asking a person to look at your map to find aspects of your maps that are flawed and prevent the map from reaching its full potential. When the the map is close to perfect after multiple mods, it can be ranked.
Modders rarely change your beatmap to play better. Most modders will give you suggestions for you to follow. It is your choice if you accept them or not.

3. Read the link in my answer to #1

Hopefully that answered your questions. If not, please state what parts need to be covered better so other posters know what to focus on.

1. Yeah, so try viewtopic.php?f=56&t=17043

2. Just do this/have them do this: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=16919

3. See answer to 1.

Users like you are why I made those guides. Enjoy. :D

If at all possible, make your first few maps really awesome. It's easier to maintain a strong reputation as a great mapper than recover from a poor one.
