Hey, it's not all bad here. "murica's still has the largest economy (consequently, GDP), and leads the world in culture, politics, technology, and science.

Of course it won't stay this way forever, and there are some major social and economic problems here, but I doubt China, Japan, or Germany will surpass USA any time soon.

i heard they also have the biggest debt, highest amount of prisoners per capita, highest firearm related death of all 1st world countrys and much more

I'm not denying that fact; I'm just saying that yeah, it's fun to ridicule America (as an American I do it all the time) but it's also important to not be ignorant and see the truth in an objective manner.

With that being said; I really want to live in japan. They have yummy food :3
Vish024
We're getting shitloads of migrants from areas like Ireland and Spain here at the moment thanks to the crisis in Europe, there's a lot of opportunity down here.

All the same I'm hoping to move to Scandinavia when I get the chance. Might even learn their Elvish language if that's what it takes. Get married to a fabulous Scandinavian woman, have 20 kids etc etc.

Considering how many satirical jokes I manage to make, I'd probably get stabbed just about anywhere else in the world. Especially the US.

3 examples:
Literature
Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Henry David Thoreau have all established a distinctive American literary voice in the middle of the nineteenth century. In addition, Mark Twain, Harper Lee, Steven King are major influences, and eleven U.S. citizens have won the Nobel Prize in Literature, including John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, Eugene O'Neil, Pearl S. Buck, T.S. Eliot and Sinclair Lewis. Ernest Hemingway, the 1954 Nobel laureate, is often named as one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century.
Music
American music styles and influences (such as country, jazz, rock and roll, rock, hip-hop, rap) and music based on it can/could be heard all over the world. American musicians include Eminem, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, Kurt Cobain, Whitney Houston, Jim Morrison, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Merle Haggard, among many others.
Cuisine
The cuisine of the United States is extremely diverse, owing to the vastness of the continent, the relatively large population (1/3 of a billion people) and the number of native and immigrant influences. Different regions of the United States have their own cuisine and styles of cooking. The state of Louisiana, for example, is known for its Cajun and Creole cooking. Cajun and Creole cooking are influenced by French, Acadian, and Haitian cooking, although the dishes themselves are original and unique. In return, these types of food can be seen and eaten all over the world.

Kanye West wrote:

mathexpert9981 wrote:

American politics have the potential to affect the entire world, due to it's central position in the world today. This can be seen simply just by asking anybody at random what the leader of say, Germany, China, or Japan is. It is likely that they won't know, but basically the entire world knows that the President of the Unite States is Obama. While it's easy to dismiss this as a result of news networks or American jingoism, it truly attests to the widespread influence the US has. Another example is (for better or worse) the middle east. The Iraq/Afghanistan war (basically the war on terror as a whole) has affected the middle east in many ways, both positively and negatively. Even though admittedly I'm against these wars, again, it's another example of the influence that the US has.

Kanye West wrote:

mathexpert9981 wrote:

In terms of goods, Japan at its peak managed less than half of the US.
China has an extremely high manufacturing potential, but as we all know their products are generally low quality. In addition, factory workers' conditions are very poor. When their products are of a high standard, they are often developed in the US - case in point, Apple's iPhone are designed in the US, then mass produced in China. China's social policies are way behind the US, and in return this slows their economic progress. In addition, the scarce natural resources, one child policy, and most importantly, the culture of innovation vs culture of obedience are major factors that go into play when even considering the idea that China will surpass the US in the near future.
--

I'd like to finish by reiterating what I said on my previous post. Yeah every country has its faults (which, I think reflects the individual and humanity in general on a greater scale) but I wish more would do their research before jumping to conclusions that they hear in bars during election season while drunk. Yeah, there are a lot of big, big problems in America e.g. the industrial-military complex, civil liberties, censorship, the war on terror, the war on drugs, etc etc. However, that doesn't mean that America doesn't have anything going for it whatsoever.

The quality of life in the USA varies drastically from area to area - like, "top-tier" to "why the fuck would you want to move to this shithole?" drastic. If you really, really feel the desire to move to America for some reason - most likely reason is because your current country is a warzone and you have relatives in America who can help you out - do a lot of research to make sure you move to somewhere like Edina, Minnesota (nice place full of fucking rich assholes) and not North Minneapolis' ghetto (also in MN). Or any of these places if you can avoid it, for that matter:

mathexpert, the US is a fallen star, and way past it's prime. the US is more like a less shabby 2nd world state than a real 1st world country. it's structures, political and social, are beyond antique, it's economy is an enourmous blob that could collapse every moment, and overall, the whole world views the US as kind of foreign and just the guy in class who thinks he is really cool but everybody ignores.

I as a german wouldn't want to live there, and most people in europe agree with that.

Please do not get me started on our congress' complete inability to compromise when the fragile economy is at stake.

As far as chilled people and weed goes... Everyone at my high school was pretty fucking chill for the most part. Coincidentally, I once saw a weed transaction go on in front of my during class, along with any given bathroom having a 70% chance of smelling like weed at any given time. I think there might be some truth to that statement.

I feel like showing how poor America's education system is:

My high school, where in my Freshman year they had us all line up at the wall in PE and sniffed our hands to see who was smoking weed - BTW, if you couldn't guess we had an 89% minority enrollment and an 80% free/reduced lunch rate - is ranked 28th in the state.

Out of 786 high schools.

Granted, we had pretty good teachers (with a few exceptions, of course), and the rankings take things like poverty into account, but that's still sad. The poverty adjustment isn't that big, either - the top 10 is made up of schools full of rich kids.

what a shame, it's an amazing song

have the lyrics instead:
SPOILER
It’s ok, allow yourself a little hate
Hatred is not so bad when directed at injustice
You can turn the other cheek, just don’t turn the other way

Enemy of the planet we finally have a common aim
a reason to forget about our differences
and stand as a united front

It’s up to us, we must expose,
Humiliate American errorists
We’ll start with one
The war has just begun

The war has just begun!

of course, I was mainly joking but I still don't understand people why people exaggerate how bad the US really is.

the politics are a joke -- that's no secret (thanks reagan). However, the living conditions are fairly nice for pretty much anybody above the poverty line and crime isn't much of a problem unless you're living in a very populated area.

Though our economy is scarily unstable and it's not exactly a safe option for those looking to live here long-term because of it

I totally agree with you on that, the US has major problems that are fueled by big corporations. My faith in US as a country has declined so much to the point that it's nonexistent, and I'm only reminded of how BS-filled this country is every day at school, when I recite the mandatory "Pledge of Allegiance" and omit the phrase "under god".

Referring to the earlier post, I'd also like to add that I immensely enjoy playing devil's advocate and was really bored at the time. Of course I'm not so deluded as to believe that America is still at the top of it's prime; I just felt like stating how I felt about the matter~

To be completely fair, I think everyone's opinion about the US and the world may be a little biased here. I say that because all of us are able to be sitting here talking on a computer with eachother. Being able to talk over the internet naturally requires a little bit of money, meaning we all are wealthy to some extent. The US, by comparison to countries without these luxury appliances, is incredibly rich. Even by global standards the US is still a wealthy country- just because we are backed in no resources and import all of our goods doesn't mean we don't have wealth. Now I'm no patriot --I think there's a lot of stuff wrong with our government and economy that needs to be sorted out. But that doesn't mean I think that the USA is a bad place. Quite the contrary. After being in southeast asia for 3 months, I can really appreciate the quality of life over here.
