In Race 1 I was in second at the very last turn, with 3 bananas trailing me and a mushroom. I ditch the bananas to use the mushroom at the last second. I then get owned by 2 red shells and finish 7th.

And that, my friends, is Mario Kart in a nutshell. If only it wasn't so fun.

And yeah, I left to change my kart to something with more acceleration since I clearly needed it

Everything race 12 onward is a computer-controlled ghost of me because my connection keeps dying. We are still playing though!

I don't think anyone did, I was keeping track and all the osu players seemed fine (except maybe Xgor)

Add our friend codes in the 3DS thread and post yours so we can add you. When we played today, it was in a worldwide game and it was a bunch of us chained together by joining friends' games.

As for Maka Wuhu, I don't use it if there are people I know in the room because it's more fun to actually play the entire track. Against randoms though I'll use it because they're going to use it.

If anyone does the glitch in a community game with friends who don't all prefer it then they're just an asshole and that's all there is to say on the matter.

Also, as horrible as the place is, we use #videogames as a meetup spot. So highlight one of us in there for an on-demand game?

Thing is, I don't get why people spam-pick the track. Most people who have played a few games online are at least aware of the trick if they don't already know how to do it, and one person spamming the track doesn't make it get picked much more often... certainly not enough to give any significant boost in VR. Maybe they just feel cool doing it or maybe they particularly enjoy racing the same 2/3 of a track as much as possible. I really don't know!

Yeah, they just want to increase their VR and ruin the fun for everyone else.

It's even worse when there's more than one person doing it... This morning I was playing online and THREE people kept spamming the track and exploiting the glitch. I eventually just ragequit because since maps automatically end 30 seconds after someone crosses the finish line, most players don't even get to finish. :I

And yeah, I guess there's always the "problem u mad im so epic troll guy" aspect of spamming Maka Wuhu too.

Honestly, they should put a restriction on how many times you can race on one track during one session or patch the game (not sure how that'll work, but...).

From what I've read, it doesn't seem like it's possible to patch, but I'm thinking that the track could at least be blocked from online play...

Dear "Cody": spamming Maka Wuhu to get useless internet points in a small community is a pretty douchey thing to do. The rest of us prefer racing on an entire track to racing on 2/3 of a track.

Someone should edit the OP to note that we prefer playing without glitching and that glitchers are frowned upon and make great item targets during races.

A way to skip nearly 1/3 of the track by falling off at a certain point and having Lakitu drop you much further into the track. You don't need a mushroom to do it... just need to land within a sweet spot in the water.

If you meet a Konata Mii, that's probably me. I don't pick Maka Wuhu, but if someone else does I usually use the glitch, cause that's why most people pick this course.

Finally 3-starred everything. Had everything but 2 cups on 150cc and but kept getting hit with blue shells at the end of races thus screwing up the chance for a 3-star. :I

Final lap on Waluigi Pinball -> I was in first for a while -> I get hit with a Blue Shell right before the finish line -> 2nd passes me -> they get hit by their own Green Shell -> I retake and finish in 1st

You get three stars by your name in online races. And if you're a completionist, the satisfaction of knowing you'll never have to touch GP mode again.

1 star everywhere earns you the Gold Wheels. I don't think 3 stars does anything differently besides giving you 3 stars next to your name in matches.

I got the game for Christmas and have already gotten 3 stars on everything. (Had to replay a bunch of cups because of blue shells over glider sections, yadda, yadda.) I want to TT each course and find all the legit glider shortcuts before heading to online but I'll add you and maybe drop in on some matches.

I'll get my FC when I'm not at work and it's safe to pull out my 3DS. Look for a sexy mii in green called Greg.

Favorite new track: Music Park. The piano/xylophone curves do it for me. Toad Circuit is a close second.

Favorite retro track: Maple Treeway. That I play Wiggler has nothing to do with this choice... it's a great track with lots of fun turns and jumps.

Yeah, I wish there had been more unlockables.

Also, I was hoping that the three-section races had had another lap around in higher cc races, but due to maka wuhu I'm glad that they don't...

New: DK Jungle, can't help myself but since i enjoyed DKC:R so much I had to love this one. I love the song and theme, also this glider (shortcut?) before the golden banana temple is awesome i always try to land on the edge of each turbo to fly farther. Even though you can easily be an asshole at the last curve with blue/red shells.

Retro: SNES Rainbow Road : I guess most people can figure that out since i always spam this track sry, music,diff. and the 2 legit shortcuts are awesome. Sometime ago i played this on my SNES again ... don't play in dark rooms ...

Btw i tried the glitch and i feel dirty now. My record is 1:20:312 now ... which sucks because people can eventually see my ghost on time trial.

New: Rainbow Road it's crazy but so much fun. Music Park has slowly grown on me too

Retro: Mushroom Gorge. Let me say this, I hate hated HAAAATED Mushroom Gorge for the Wii but somehow, it's one of my favorite courses in this game. I think it's possibly due to the control scheme, it works so well

Waluigi Pinball. How can you not love this one <3

Retro: Waluigi Pinball; for some reason I love casino/pinball tracks (this also includes the one on Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing)

And yeah, I missed Mission Mode... I also hate the fact that they took out single player VS... I wanna race on the tracks I want without having to go online, doing a GP, or doing Time Trial ._.

Maple Treeway is the best retro in MK7 :3

And just to put it out there Rainbow Road Wii is the best course for all the games imo.

Rail ride SC? Anyway, I meant hitting opponents during the loops and they fall out.

Oh hurr, that's so annoying! And easier to do in the second loop for some reason.
Anyway, the rail ride allows you to skip the first loop. You time a shroom just right and you land on the right rail and fall into it, then you can hop to the far side of the loop.
There are also 2 Lakitu abuse glitches if you can hit the posts holding up parts of the track.

What? I almost always pull off knocking opponents off on the first loop but hardly ever the second...

Anyway, I've never done that shortcut much less heard about it till now.

I reached an extremely high skill level in MKDS at one point. Back when nSider was still around. Good times.

I miss being able to snake now, but that just made people ragequit more.

I preferred the fast pace. Kicking around the track not doing anything to try and go faster just feels wrong somehow.
But they did a good job keeping out long straight sections from tracks so you still get to release a lot of MTs. I still would be happier if they brought back the original MT system. Keeping both methods would help intermediate players keep up a bit. And it's not like beginners stand a chance anyway, even with the nerved MTs.

You can break a red shell on MK7 if you hop over a little gap in the road. Bowser Castle has a few.

It's easiest with a mushroom, though IIRC in at least one game you can dodge it without a shroom.

Completely random. The "kartparty" highlight I've been suggesting is to make them easier to organize.

And dodging blue shells? Please. I turn around and manually punch the fucker out.

MKDS: Charge an MT. When the shell stops above your head, release the MT and hop towards the same direction. It's easy on 150cc, but nearly impossible on 100cc. Extremely slippy courses make it easier, which is why Frappe Snowland gets picked a lot.
You can also dodge them off of bumps. What's essential is that you're facing sideways when the shell hits.

MKW: I don't play MKW, but apparently a carefully timed mushroom will get you out. I'm not sure if any maneuvering is required as well.

I hope an MK7 method is eventually discovered.

It's kinda odd though... MK7's blue shell kinda flies the same as MKWii's and MKDS'; it's just that MK7's flies low to the ground now except for when it's about to hit 1st place.

Guesses: 1) They made the bomb-targeting better and/or 2) the explosion is bigger.

My guess: they made MTs weaker, or they changed how it aims. In MKDS, it aims at about 2 feet in front of your kart, in the hopes that you'll drive into the explosion. (The explosion is also larger than 2 feet in radius, so this was thought a safe assumption.) This is why flying through the air facing sideways causes the shell to miss.

If they so much as used your velocity instead of your facing, that alone would make dodging them much more difficult. Maybe they're possible to dodge by ticking. (just nicking the edge of a wall so that you bounce off without losing speed)

Here's the real clincher: blue shell dodging in MKDS on 100cc (used for all wi-fi battles) was extremely difficult, and required either frame-perfect timing, assistance from a bump, or a slippery road. It was balanced. I don't get why they removed it.

I like MK7's low-flying blue shell. It's more like the one on MK64 and increases the chance of other players being hit.

Why do i always think of Mortal Kombat when people use MK as shortcut for Mario Kart :-/

Manipulation. Intentionally falling off the course at a specific spot which causes Lakitu to put you back on the track at a much further position. MK7 has one of them on Maka Wuhu. I think every 3d Mario Kart has at least one.

The only DKJ glitch I know is a wall which doesn't clip in the cave near the end. It's only useful to save .5 or something on lap3 since you fall off the course when you do it.

Using a Star in the tunnel, which makes it count as a lap and possibly putting you in first. If you try this without a Star, it won't work, forcing you to do the WHOLE lap all over again, pretty much guaranteeing you being in last.

Unless there's a way for us to tell you there's a kartparty going on, then the only way for you to know is to be lucky, as mm201 said.

You say you don't keep osu! turned on but is there another way to contact you? Like AIM or MSN or something? I'd happily take a few seconds to message you whenever it's going down if it's an option.

Also, knowing what times people are around may help. I'm generally around most of the evening after I get home from work, which tends to be between 6-8pm (GMT-5). Often I'm around at random on weekends too.

And if there isn't a game in progress, why not try starting one? A number of us have kartparty on our highlights now for exactly this purpose.
