Straight-up 3/4ths or full front view is also a pretty boring pose.
Generally speaking, you want dynamic, flowing poses that direct the viewer's attention somewhere as opposed to a straight-on view. Something to note for future pieces, try doing pore action-y, dynamic poses, instead of still 3/4ths or full.

Well it was a wip, the skirt looks short 'coz I suck at cloth wrinkles I was planning to make her legs folded (ok how do I describe that.. somewhat like sitting pretty?) and the blade was curved because of her angle.

My brother did awesome shit on paint too, but I guess both your friend and my brother are very skilled drawers, so...
You may as well play around with different tools until you find what works for you anyway. Great art can be made with essentially anything in theory.

While I find this to be true for a large part of the fanbase, it's worth noting that artistic perfection isn't necessarily the goal of many people. If you really do want to get better at your art, then yes, real life figure studies and forays into the realms of artistic theory are important, but a lot of the people who draw anime without strictly adhering to certain artistic rules aren't doing it strictly to study art - they're doing it for the sake of having fun with it.failboat wrote:
