imagine making so much drama that the mapper lost motivation to map said mode, thank you taiko community... you really know how to be the worst in cases...
the part where it's staying ranked is on me alone. to make sure everyone is aware, we only unrank for strictly broken things (completely mistimed objects, off-screen / unhittable objects). as a muzukashii level player myself, i played through the map and concluded this doesn't really fall into any criteria which i could warrant an unrank for (unless the mapper appealed for it to me directly, which they haven't).
to be honest, without knowing the ranking criteria i wouldn't have even picked up on it being an issue in the first place. sure, it might take a few tries to double-hit it if i cared enough to, but it's not impossible and not even hard with a few attempts.
hopefully this can be used as a cautionary tale to check beatmaps better before approving / nominating. based on the level of minor-outrage from players and mapper, i think it should have been caught by any single nominator playing the difficulty once, or any single player playing the map while it was in a qualified state.
and please remember: this isn't the end for the map. most people, like me, won't even care that much. let's not get stuck with such strict standards that our brain rejects anything which is slightly outside the norm.
rerank a map with fixing issues which violate the ranking criteria rules wouldn't be a big deal I think, I still don't get why this should be stayed in ranked section and keep making players uncomfortable who actually play this. there were tons of maps which got unranked due to violate ranking criterias, this one couldn't be an exception since it can be caught in sight by players too easily
I appreciate you coming out and giving your reasoning for the decision. I do acknowledge that this pattern is hittable and not completely broken to the point that it ruins the playability of the map. I think of this similarly to if, hypothetically, a map was ranked with an overlapping slider in standard. Yes, it is hittable, but it is awkward to play and inconsistent with how ranked maps are supposed to function. I would agree with Nifty that with such few restrictions on what is rankable in a Muzukashii difficulty, it should be very important to ensure that these rules are consistently followed in all ranked maps.
I don't intend to place blame on anyone in this situation, the mapper, the host of the mapset, the BNs, or you. It was a mistake that managed to get through and if the map is to remain ranked then I agree that the best outcome would be to use this as a learning experience to be more careful in the future.
"Let's not get stuck with such strict standards that our brain rejects anything which is slightly outside the norm."
This isn't "slightly outside the norm," it's outside the rules in the ranking criteria. Not the norm, not even guidelines, the ONLY strict standards that are enforced in mapping. If we're letting maps stay ranked that break our few strict ranking standards (literally 3 for muzukashiis), then what's to be made of any other rules if (when) they get broken in later ranked maps?
The official content (for this purpose, maps in the ranked section) of the game should AT LEAST follow the basic rules set for maps. Not fixing content that violates the laws we've laid out isn't just dismissive towards the rules themselves, but it also places a permanent mistake in the game when it could have been fixed. So many people play this game just for ranked maps, it's shitty to let obvious and detrimental rule breaks get ranked just because you personally don't find it egregious.
If it's such a laborious process to unrank a map that you would rather leave a permanent mistake in your game than fix it, then maybe that process should be streamlined. I don't see why giving NAT a way to unrank wouldn't make sense, given they're supposed to be the final word on the criteria and should know very well what should be unranked and what shouldn't. If this is too complicated, then I would ask for you (or your staff) to care more about making sure these mistakes are corrected, with the interests of the people affected by these mistakes in mind.
"This doesn't really fall into any criteria which I could warrant an unrank for."
I get you have a vision of what deserved to be ranked and unranked, but I urge you to drop the idea that you are the sole decider of what gets ranked. It shouldn't be about what you alone, or what a handful of staff, think warrants an unrank, it should be about what we (rc writers, nat, bns, and community) have agreed on warranting an unrank, and what has worked for us for years. Thankfully, this isn't difficult, as we have a very clear set of rules saying what is required for a map to be ranked (or unranked), in which one of the three muzukashii rules is to not use finishers in 1/4 patterns.
tl;dr we only have so many strict rules, we should be able to call to unrank things that break them, staff letting things that break those rules stay ranked is undermining the purpose of the rules, if the issue is labor then unranking should be streamlined so we can correct stuff without a bunch of fuss, or staff should care more about the rules of the game to be willing to unrank maps that break them
no, in fact speak louder, spread the voice and re-open ALL mistakes in maps when they are qualified or even after they are ranked. exactly because players dont speak up after noticing mistakes in ranked thinking that "ahhh its already ranked, whatever i got my score lol" became the norm, that shit like this would happen (and mistakes that arent severe but totally avoidable like sv unaffecting objects, unintended barlines or whatever - are getting more often) and taiko has fallen into this miserable state.
mistakes in mapping arent a hard thing to fix, but negligence is. all of this shouldnt have happened, and QI shouldnt exist to begin with, but unfortunately we dont have a choice
