Adding Beatmaps

It is worth mentioning that you should save the files and remember where it is located.
  • Log-in your osu! account.
    • Unless you are planning to download from Beatmap Pack Listing.
  • Go to Beatmap Listing page or Beatmap Pack Listing page
  • Find the songs or the packs you like.
  • Press the Download link. You should be prompt by your browser to allow or cancel the download.
    • It is worth noting that the main server have a limit when it comes to Beatmap downloading from the site in one time. If the server detects you are downloading too much in one time (say, 3 Beatmaps in 1 minute), a timeout warning will be issued and will be lifted after a while (~500 seconds).
  • Find where you keep the Beatmap (or Beatmaps packs) you downloaded. Usually, they would be founded at Users/Downloads folder.
    • If you still can't find it, use your "Search" and key in the Beatmap(/Beatmaps packs) name. Then, remember where the future Beatmap (/Beatmaps packs) would end up in every time you download.
  • Drag the beatmaps (or extract the beatmaps in the Beatmaps pack) to your desktop.
    • If you can multi-task, you can opt to use two windows (Downloads and osu! program file) without dragging it out to desktop.
  • Manually find osu! program file[C:\Program Files\osu!].
    • If you did not know, C: is the hard-disk location name that your computer understands. If you can't find it at C: and you have a different hard-disk location name (like D: or H:), then go there and find it.
    • If you know how to work your computer, make a shortcut link to the osu! folder by right-clicking osu! folder in the Program Files and press "Create Shortcut". If you did do this, it will save you the hassle and time needed. Just remember where you hide the shortcut in.
  • Move the beatmap(s) (either in .osz or .zip) to the Songs file.
  • Open your osu! and press a game mode. osu! will extract the data (may take a while) and your beatmaps can be played. Enjoy your beatmap(s).
    • Using "F5" is highly suggested especially when you are in a group in Multi mode. osu! will extract the data without leaving the group.

OS X (Apple)

OS X (Apple)
How to install
Original post
  • Download osu!.zip (contains osu!.app)
    • Remember to give your thanks to Ephemeral for the packaging.
  • Extract the .zip file and put osu!.app somewhere safe in your desktop.
  • Open the .app and osu! updater will run.
  • Wait for the updater to complete it's update and osu! is now playable.
    • The first time you run osu!, it may take up to 5 minutes to start. This is due to X11 (the graphical subsystem) rebuilding a font cache.

Adding Beatmaps

For a picture guide, press the Original post link above.
  • Right-click osu!.app and select "Show Package Contents"
    • If you are moving only one .osz file, drag that directly to osu!.app icon. The map will be extracted.
  • Navigate to "Contents/Resources/winePrefix/drive_c/osu/Songs"
  • Drag your .osz (or .zip) files to the "Songs" file
  • Open your osu!.app and go to a go to song selection or hit "F5".
      • Importing songs may get stuck. If this happens, try "ALT-F4" or "ESC" mashing, or quit osu! and run it again.

Notes

  • This build will always start the updater when you run it. It will update to newer releases and therefore when the remaining issues are fixed you will automatically receive the fixes.
  • [Unconfirmed whether it is still in effect]Online ranking and bancho connections will not currently work. This will be fixed in the near future.
  • You can make a shortcut to the songs folder on your desktop by dragging the folder while holding command and option. This should make it easier to load new maps.

Questions

osu! (peppy)

  • I try to run osu! and get an 'Initialization Error'
    • Make sure you have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed (Windows XP only, Vista/7/8 have it installed by default).
  • Why can't I download from the Beatmap listing?
    • You need to register for the site first. Registration is free and very quick, and as well as giving you the benefit of accessing beatmap downloads, it also allows you to obtain a ranking on the online leaderboards and chat to other players in-game. So there's no excuse not to sign up!
  • I can't play the Beatmap I downloaded!
    • Your file is incomplete/corrupted. Did you just canceled the download half-way? If so, search back that song name and download it again and stay till the song is completed it's download properly.
      • osu! will put the incomplete/corrupted song under "Failed" folder in "Songs" folder file.
  • Something else going wrong?
    • If you come across a bug or error not listed above, check out the Bug Reports forum and post there (searching through existing threads first is highly recommended). Someone will definitely be around to help. Just make sure you speak your points clearly and provide a proof to back-up your points (like a screenshot, video, and/or the steps to reproduce).
    • Also, please consider using the osu! IRC channel if you are bit skeptical to post at Bug Reports section.

osu!droid (Pesets)

  • What versions of Android OS are supported?
    • All versions since 1.6 (Donut).
  • Will you support storyboard/video?
    • No.
  • Will you make a <feature name>?

T-Aiko (Guy-kun)

  • I can't play on my Android phone!
    • Do you happen to be using a Motorola smartphone? There seems to be a bug in Motorola Android firmware that causes the game to crash when pressing play without even letting you send an error report. The only recommendation to-do is to install a (Stock) Google ROM.
    • If you discover any (bugs/problems), please post at this forum post complete with what smartphone you are using and the steps to reproduce the problem.
