Round 25: Windmill Slider Formation

Image

Nominated by Lybydose. A series of sliders (usually four in a row, usually etna) which all originate from a shared center point, making the pattern look like a windmill. The sliders may not necessarily be curved, which can instead form a + or X design.

Example Map(s)
Feel Good Inc. by Luigihann.
Floating Darkness by Bibendum

Voted a 2.

They are very rarely used effectively.

IMO there are three types of "windmill sliders": those you can keep your cursor at the centre of, those where you need to move from the centre (the OP's example), and those you need to move toward the centre (reverse of the OP's example).

Bubbles - F uses them nicely. Most other maps, nope, simply abuse.

I quite like these most of the time, but they can be abused sometimes, so I'll go with a 4

Feel Good Inc. is the only map that I can think of that really did this well. A lot of the time it turns into "syncing with the music? Who cares about that, my sliders are pretty"

Yea I agree... I want more maps to use them intuitively with the music.

They don't have to be centred on one point, right?
Always leave headroom before bouncing.
Avoid close harmonies at lower registers.
Check for mono compatibility thoroughly with wide mixes.
Opt for volume automation instead of just compression.
Detune that sawtooth.
Putting effects on the master channel while mixing is basically all seven cardinal sins.

But they don't originate from the same point.

So yes, I agree the wording in the OP should be changed.

Windmill honeycomb etna flower combos FTW :)
Gameplay, cosmetic, remark, badly applied mods, ranking guidelines.

Awesome.
All lines in my mod posts are just suggestions if and only if you can give me a good reason why you didn't apply it. "No" is not a good reason.

I don't quite like sliders that all start from the same point
