A Few Questions About Progression

Play Count: 550 (So you don't have to check, yes i know i need to play a lot more but i have a few questions)

Note - I chose the play insane to get better route (Although when i play with friends i don't shy away from easier maps (Which i sometimes FC but never above 90% unless i have played it at least a few times). I started out as everyone with a few normal/easy maps then i went straight to the hard/insane maps (Currently at 4-6 star maps). Over the 550 plays I have, I improved from a few% accurracy to an average of 50% (Yes i play with NF), on some maps that i play a lot i can achieve over 65% already, although i cant survive these maps yet. Maintaining combos is out of the question atm.

1. Scattered circles at high BPM: Will i be able to read fast, layered and scattered circles on the spot and react to them as i play? Some songs just have circles appearing everywhere (Distance is not a problem really) and even worse, they sometimes layer on top of each other and i am completely unable to read nor react to them. Is this a play to learn thing or do you have to actually MEMORIZE where they and when they appear?

2. Starting a stream: In the cluster*** that is an insane map (Not even talking bout maps like the black hole) where there are a lot of things on the screen appearing and disappearing how does one hit circles/sliders and still have the ability to read and start a stream at 300?

3. RARE (but it happens), Random 0.5 sec spinners: Probably memorization or am i wrong?

your current play history rather resembles mine at that stage, i nofailed a LOT when i just started and it didn't really help me in the long run. I developed a lot of bad habits such as mashing and my reading would lapse a dozen times per map. I've pretty much outgrown those habits but i definitely would do things different if i could go back...

one big thing thats quite annoying and inevitable if you NF maps you can't read yet, and yes most of those maps you are NFing you cannot read, that's why your acc on them is so low, is that even when you get good enough to play them, even become overqualified to the point where you should be able to FC it.. you won't be able to. your brain will fart on those maps. i played this map on [Insane] over 100 [!] times in my first week before i was ready, and even now I can't FC it. Why? Because the map is screwed up in my head. I've FC'd much harder maps...

in summation, i'd recommend you not use nofail on maps you cannot at LEAST get a C rank on. I recommend you play stuff that challenges you but you can pass with nothing higher than a B rank. Then when those B's start turning into A's go play some easier maps for FC's to see if you can set higher top ranks afterwards. Then go back to playing for B's until they're A,s, then try to FC some other easier maps, rinse and repeat. This seems like a path I'd recommend for improvement rather than nofailing maps you can't read, which I did at one point too.

4-6 stars is a huge range too btw, like night and day. I can't properly play most 6 star maps.

I'm not really against the idea of gradual progression. I mashed a lot the first 2 days when i started playing however, yesterday i tried switching to almost exclusive single tapping with Z and that boosted my accuracy by at least 10-30% on most maps and i don't really mash anymore. The thing that is keeping me away from gradual progression is that even though i don't win the maps i play i see that i am making progress and i actually enjoy playing fast maps, dunno why.

definitely, i have countless local rankings from 2013 where im progressing from 58%-65% up to 75%-79% with nofail from and that's definite improvement, but i still say it comes with its downsides and long term consequences.

Just tried playing a Hard map. Played this https://osu.ppy.sh/s/148377 maps 3 and a tad star version for the first time and got a flat 80.0% and a C, so i guess that my skill level atm.
EDIT: I actually managed to beat the very first hard map i started spamming with NF: Tear Rain Hard @ 166x max combo 16x misses and 81% acc. ^_^

You have to learn how the map flows. This isn't as hard as it sounds, it just takes practice. I can properly read almost anything that isn't with Hard Rock or above AR10, but my reactions and consistency are what hold me back, for an example.

Just start by playing things that you can pass, but can't FC very easily. Work your way up slowly and don't rush things. That's why you find so many people that can only play AR10.

Same as above, really. If you're reacting to the song, then this isn't difficult. It's the exact same concept for timing as hitting another circle; the only difference is you're starting a stream instead.

These are currently unrankable and thus will only appear in very very old maps. They were literally only memorization, and even then were accuracy killers for no fair reason.

Good luck.

1. Yes, just play more.
2. They've progressed and played a lot, which means it's natural. Just play more.
3. You can try memorization, or, as you play more (are you seeing a trend here?) you'll actually be getting decent reaction speed and react to these instead of having to memorize. In other words, play more.

I'd like to add that FC'ing Easy/Normal with under 90% accuracy is just downright abysmal, and I can foresee that in the future you will be coming back to these forums (if you're still around) asking for tips to increase accuracy. You're digging yourself a hole. You can be as fast as SpeedyGonzales for all anyone cares but it's meaningless if you don't have enough accuracy or aim to maintain a decent combo with high accuracy.

You play and play until you start to find your own meanings to the patterns you see, the more you play and the more variety you play the better you will be. Some better than others, discover your weak and strong points and work on them. There´s bad habits but everything can be changed with patience and practice.

don't use no-fail. you're just training yourself to spam, play maps at your skill level and train yourself to be accurate and not to miss.
