No, period is 2π*sqrt(a^3/μ)

What are a and μ?
samX500
a is the orbits semi-major axis.
μ is G*M
G is the gravitational constant
M is the mass of the central body

Keep in mind that this equation only works so long as M is far greater than the mass of the body orbiting it.

G has units of m^3/(kg s^2), so units check out (unit is s). I also looked it up and you're 100% right. I'm trying to derive this myself, though, so I tried doing force then energy then angular momentum but got stuck on all three, as follows.

Could you point me in the right direction please?

Edit: actually let me try for one more day.

Understanding all of them is like understanding 2019 memes . . . . and also understanding peoples weird fetishes like a germaphobe having a snot fetish

So this is what I got.

I multiplied by C (circumference) and took the reciprocal of velocity to get the right units (m * s/m). It looks kind of like yours but not quite.

I'm proud of myself though, even if I had to crack open my old Physics textbook ^_^

Edit: I got it! C = 2πr, so substituting that into the part line, I have my final answer:

ayy I knew I could count on you

Okay, okay. . . . How long did you spend on that . . .? i'm concerned now . . .

I spent about 30 minutes rereading a chapter from my Physics textbook and another 30 minutes actually doing the thing. I did it all on mobile, though, which is why it took so long :(
