Our future here is bleak. We have nothing to write as we are somewhat limited. Popularity of OT is nearing all time low.

But, seriously. What would you rather see in the future? A mass influx of plain, unoriginal but somewhat comical shitpost threads or could and/or should we make more serious threads to bring in some other people as well as to better ourselves and see different point of views? Now, I may sound like a complete dumbass, and in the dark, but we (generally) don't really know each other that well here. Despite being around for all this time. That one recent 'friendship' thread I made gave me a solid understanding of some people that, otherwise, I wouldn't get to know.

I'm asking, mainly because I, myself, like to read philosophy books and I'm always down for some thought provoking discussions (but it doesn't even need to have any direct correlations to philosophy, if you ask me). I have a few ideas in mind, but I don't want these potential threads to become obsolete and ignored. Or in a worst case scenario, for them to get derailed and shit on. I know I can (already) rely on few people (ex. abraker, dcv, b1rd) to pinch in. Some humor is always welcome, but in certain scenarios- there's just too much.

inb4 I'm not saying that we should stop with any of these by any means.

Also, if you don't mind me asking but...

What is a 'perfect OT' and is there a way to accomplish this feat/your 'ideal OT'?

First of all, I'm not calling out anyone since I'm a shitposter myself. Second of all, things I'm doing in FG is just for shits and giggles. It's not like I consistently spam this shit, even though that one thread is all over the place tbh, it's not like I'm doing any harm. I don't 'want to be serious', even though I have no idea on what this actually means, and from where do you even get this one. The point of this thread is pretty clear.

Me telling other people that they 'suck' is just a joke. It's gimmicky and fresh, and I don't plan on stopping. So either chill out, or ignore me. I couldn't care less.

Hmm. Serious threads seem pretty good, but OT is well-fitted for shitposting too. Though things relative to the more serious stuff, like our varied philosophies, or our thoughts on a specific event or string of events, do fit as "Off-Topic" relative to talking about osu!, I think General Discussion should be pretty much the same thing.

I mean, here's the subtext for each forum, it'll probably help:

"General Discussion - Post anything about non-osu!, as long as it's quality content."

"Off-topic - For the not-so-logical discussions."

By the looks of it, these serious threads really would be most relevant to GD. I wouldn't want to put a thread that addresses the problem of depression in the osu! community in something that is labelled a "not-so-logical discussion".

Well, you just contradicted with yourself.
Thanks to Xuequionx, I'd like to mention https://osu.ppy.sh/forum/7 which is free off of shitposting.

I didn't contradict myself in any way, you're either confused or you're trolling.

Hold on what's the contradiction again?

Understandable, but keep in mind that we've built a community around this place + GD has never been as active as OT as there aren't many active participants there. I've tried making threads on GD, but they would all end up being a waste of time. While here, I have succeeded in making some threads with quality discussions that, surprisingly, didn't get derailed all that much (and more impressively, it was done during the 'shitpost fiesta era of OT', where nearly every thread got the 'derail treatment').

Yes, OT is made for shitposting, but it doesn't mean it's limited to it.
Achromalia
Yeah, I get that. OT is much more popular and most threads here have more exposure.

Huh. It's kinda sad.

But yeah, I'd like having the serious threads around.

Depends on people willing to make serious threads. Complaining is easy, doing is hard

...doing is hard
It's really not.

Like I said, it doesn't even need to be profound or anything. It can be as simple as addressing something topical in this community. Even if that 'something' is of minuscule importance.

That was just a statement. Didn't need any further looking into. I just said "I like having serious threads around". I didn't say "I want more serious threads" or "I want some of the serious threads to die". I guess you could say "liking it" implies I "want more". I never asked for more though. That'll happen due to the nature of the forums and the fact that these threads are still around.

Wait, where was the complaint?

plot twist: do whatever you like

BASICALLY, this is why... even if I feel like I have any issues with OT, I actually don't.
abraker
Then a question I beg to ask is why you don't make serious threads?
GSG95
Honestly, I'd like to see a good balance of both.

But, we don't live in a perfect world...
