Hey there, welcome.
Just because you need to sign up for an account to download maps doesn't mean you should ignore the forums; If you plan on submitting any beatmaps you make, people will be posting advice on improving them in the forum topic that's automatically created when you submit it. It's not required, but it's also nice to comment on other people's maps from time to time ^_^
Also, Peppy can and will verbally castrate you if you ask him about things that are in the FAQs or about features that are already in the changelog. So don't ignore those
