[osu!stable] Preview point is different between site and game

Problem details: beatmapsets/2439872#osu/5321881

In this map, I want to set the preview point to 03:40:394, right before "tatoeba" in the song. However, when the game previews the song in song select, it starts playing too early.

To remedy this, I set the preview point later, to 03:41:127, which mostly fixes the issue, but now on the map listing, the preview reflects the timing that I have it set to.

I first made the map in Stable, exported it to Lazer to time it, then exported it back to Stable to map it. The exporting process may have caused this error with the preview point (which I believe I created in Stable after timing the song), but I have another map created exactly the same way, and its preview point is correctly set both in game and on its listing, so I doubt that the song's creation process may have played a role in this.

osu! version: Stable 20250815 (latest)

I think this has corrected itself now? Can you check again that the website preview point matches what you'd expect to hear?

This can happen because map previews are cached pretty aggressively and it can take a couple of days for them to refresh.

Unfortunately it's still broken, I redownloaded my map to doublecheck.

To clarify what I originally wrote, the preview point in game isn't properly reflecting what's been set in the editor, previewing the song too early, while the beatmap listing on the osu! site is properly reflecting the set preview point. To temporarily fix this, I've had to intentionally set the preview point later so that it "works" in game, but the preview on the osu!site is now late as it's properly reflecting what's been set. It's primarily an in-game issue, not a site issue.

In fact actually, now that I'm looking at this again, the site preview is also unexpectedly wrong, it plays a full beat later than what was set. Not sure what's happening here.

Here's a video of what's happening: https://youtu.be/njxokHm8KWg

The .mp3 you're using in that map is a variable bit rate MP3 file. Variable bit rate files are notorious for being difficult when it comes to accurate seeking and determining audio position.

I think there's a high chance that the MP3 is the issue here. Please try using another MP3 with constant bit rate, or re-encoding your current one.

This worked, thank you ^^

One more thing, on Firefox (my main browser), the site still uses the old preview, but listening to it on Chrome, it has the correct preview. I assume this is due to cookies? Would I need to clear them to fix this?

Not cookies as much as browser cache, which is a slightly different thing. A hard refresh might help (the shortcut for that is Ctrl-Shift-R).
