I've been making some beatmaps and really want to have BG videos for them since I think they really enhance the spectacle of playing rhythm games, but the editor in ozu!lazer says the feature is not ready yet, and I don't know when it ever will be. I tried putting the beatmaps into the original osu! to add videos in there, but that version of osu! doesn't run well on my PC and is prone to crashing, and even if I do manage to put a video into the beatmap through OG osu! editor, I can't submit it because the beatmap file is "too big". It would be nice if there was at least an option to update our beatmaps with videos from the site by uploading a video file. Does anyone have any solutions? Please help if you can, it would be really appreciated.

You can probably use the option in lazer to open the song folder and manually edit the text file while adding the video into the folder. The I doubt that would remove the size restriction on the file though.

I agree though that it would be nice to be able to edit these things like backgrounds and video in the site outside of the in game editor.

Hey, sorry this is a delayed reply but could you help explain how to do that? I just tried it myself, I saw that lazer has an option to "edit externally" which opens the folder for you to put files in, but when I put in an mp4 file and clicked 'import changes' there was still no video to be seen during gameplay. And I didn't see no text file so I don't know what you're referring to. Would it work if I put in another video format like AVI? Maybe if I used a format that didn't take up as much space, would that be able to upload? Let me know what kinds of formats are generally used.

so yea you've pretty much got it, all you have to do now is "edit externally" again, open the beatmap file directly in notepad. there will be a section that looks something like

[Events]
//Background and Video events
//Storyboard Layer 0 (Background)
//Storyboard Layer 1 (Fail)
//Storyboard Layer 2 (Pass)
//Storyboard Layer 3 (Foreground)
//Storyboard Layer 4 (Overlay)
//Storyboard Sound Samples

in that section just add a line so that it looks like:

[Events]
//Background and Video events
Video,0,"video.mp4"
//Storyboard Layer 0 (Background)
//Storyboard Layer 1 (Fail)
//Storyboard Layer 2 (Pass)
//Storyboard Layer 3 (Foreground)
//Storyboard Layer 4 (Overlay)
//Storyboard Sound Samples

and replace video.mp4 with the file name of your video.

Update: Thanks for the guide, I did as you said and it works! Of course it still makes the beatmaps too big to submit, which is a shame that other people won't be able to access the videos unless I could send the link to the videos via Google Drive in the beatmap descriptions? Do they allow links to be shared like that? Moreover, editing the files to add in the videos also counts as modifying the beatmap so in the song select there is that annoying 'Update' button that's beckoning for me to click on it and revert my changes. Idk if there's a way to disable the Update button, but does it matter if the beatmap's been modified locally? I don't know if it prevents you from being able to upload your scores to the online leaderboard, but if that's the only downside I can live with that.

we shouldn't stick to .osu editing forever, drag and drop is the best for all
