I have my own opinions on SSing songs, though I don't know how naive I am on my opinions so I can't say they're objective. Personally, I just think grinding SS is a way to gain consistence-mastery of everything which you can do easily and that there's not much point in being hung up about "oh no I hit one good". I understand some players are like that though, I just don't think that will ever be me. The only reason I see to grind consistent SS on easier songs in terms of skill is to simply be better at the easy parts, slow timings and long delays between notes that can be easily forgotten when playing fast stuff.
What I will say objectively though is that if you're getting SS in 4*s, you are either
- Around rank 2k skill-wise, which in that case a ~200pp from 4* SS is immediately voided by hundreds of higher-diff 98% plays worth 400+pp.
- Playing a chordjack that simply is too slow for you (so essentially too easy)
- Playing a JS/HS map that is incredibly simple (so essentially too easy)
- Or a combination of the above two in an incredibly standard (not the gamemode) ranked map
Yea I only have 1 SS on a 1* (though technically 3 or 4 since the rest are graveyarded), so I can only rely on hindsight. And currently, my hindsight is telling me "Why would you grind SS for pp (I understand if there is a point in scrounging for pp I've never had to witness)?", "Why would you play 4k if you want to play 6k? Only thing that will transfer are the habits/mentality, which in that case you should develop said habits and mentality in 6k", and "Dang you really gonna SS 4*s? You must be really good if you can do that consistently".
Feel free to challenge me on anything I wrote above.
