warn about sharing country

this should should be a big unmissable warning like this



really almost no one reads the privacy policy so placing very important information ONLY there and nowhere else is not very user friendly

Playing from NK long-term would likely make you an interesting person :p People in UK or Russia currently might have concerns.

I don't think it should be a warning. You have to willingly provide the information and should be your own warning before doxxing yourself. Even without account registration, your location is logged by numerous entities probably just browsing to the forums.

information from osu can be used for harassment on any platform, some platforms have poor moderation,
some people are too famous for all their offenders to be banned, creating a new account after being banned is too easy

Nobody is creating accounts off cooldown to harass someone for their flag in spite of being blocked, nor is anyone banding together to do such things. It honestly just sounds like you have a persecution complex.

I mentioned racism to prove that the fact that osu shares your country is very important, which means it should be a very noticeable warning for it. people should also read the privacy policy, but that doesn't mean important information about account creation shouldn't be displayed during account creation

Just getting rid of that country flag probably won't change the situation much. That kind of thing isn't welcomed in osu!, and if someone is looking you up through osu!, they probably already know more about you than just the basic country info.

If someone really cares about keeping personal information, they're likely to read the user agreement.
Ordinary users don't care whether the flag of their country will be displayed near the nickname

sorry, didn't quite get the message across.
I'm more curious about what happens if someone wants to play, but they're blocked by this impenetrable wall that provides information about their country? I'd understand if it was leaking some incredible personal data, but it's nothing special there.
So, what's the point of this warning if it doesn't affect anything, especially in the context of osu!, where country matters little (not always)?

How often have you encountered racism within osu?
Racism in osu is usually moderated and punished. The fact that you're warned that your country of residence will be published won't stop 99.9% of people, and those it does stop should probably see a psychologist, as they likely have some issues and are panicking unnecessarily.
Racism exists everywhere, some people just take it too hard or see a problem where there isn't one. Those who really care about their personal data and try to hide their information will look at the policy, otherwise nobody cares (it's unlikely someone will go to a profile, see their country in the profile, and hastily delete their account just because they might encounter racism, which is extremely difficult to do in the context of osu).

Yes, that can happen too, but everyone who goes online and spends time there understands that, and reminding them again of their nationality is pointless.
Osu!, in principle, is almost never used in the context of countries; where you're from, whether you're rich or not, everyone generally doesn't care, and even if an inadequate person shows up, they can equate pretty much anything to racism, even the fact that you play Osu!, xd.

I'm more interested in how someone would leave information about themselves without noticing the country flag. Or are you already talking about removing flag information in principle, since osu! is fundamentally confidential, and until you leave info about yourself, the only thing known about you is your country?

Yeah, all racists have prejudices, which anyone can develop. So my example works just fine. (I recently had an incident where someone got offended by nothing and now can't say anything but insults).

I'm already too lazy to continue this conversation, you still haven't grasped a bunch of arguments, and you're still, for some reason, insisting on claiming this useful function, which will probably never be helpful in the context of osu.

It was about information concerning other social media accounts, which you rarely disseminate outside of your profile in principle (at least, I haven't seen that in game chats), and there you'll see information about yourself one way or another, including the flag (you basically have to spend money on that there).

oh yeah people already know about the low precision doxxing before linking their other social media to their osu account, too bad creating an account while streaming on twitch is an exception to that("accidentally"),
I guess vtubers have to read the privacy policy every single time they create an account anywhere, try doing that and see if it's fun
